I LOVE YOU GUY'S DID YOU KNOW THAT!!!

I AM A COMPLETE MESS, I AM ACTUALLY CRYING.

I CAN'T THINK STRAIGHT LET ALONE TRY TO TYPE.

I TRULY APPRECIATE ALL THE POSITIVE ENERGY BEING SENT OUT
TO ME.
SORRY I AM A REAL SOFTIE.

I don't know how I ever had 3 kids, and got through it.

Please don't get me wrong I love all the colours but I have always
longed for a RUBY my hubby said if it is meant to be then one will be
in the litter. How can he stay so calm.

Kendall: You crack me up icon_yikes icon_yikes
Karlin: Believe me as soon as I know you will al know.
Gosh I have been yapping about it for long enough.

Karlin: The puppies are whelping at another home who Lady lives
with, all I know is I could not take it any longer and called
to see if anything was happening this morning and hubby said
my breeder had gone down to deliver the pups.

Do your daycare kids think you belong in the nuthouse today? I can just see it. Little Janie asks Linda if she can break little Johnny's arm because he spit at her and Linda says "do whatever you need to do. I am waiting on an email"
Of course I'm just kidding, I just know your mind is on one thing and one thing only today. :D

Kat: It is so funny, I was logging on to post on the thread.
I saw your post, originally I was crying again.
I just burst into laughter, all my little darlin kiddies call me Auntie
Linda.
Thanks Kat :D :D :D

I will try again a little later.

Linda

Well I still have had no word, I have called numerous times but
I guess they are still with the puppies.
Not much I can do but wait, I will call again a little later.

In the meantime, my breeder did give me permission a while back to
share the mom's picture so here she is.

Although this picture is a year old.
Isn't she pretty.

Okay are you all ready, I just got the call.

Lady the mom had to have a c-section, I knew something was wrong.

She is okay

Here we go, please pray for me.

She delivered

4 Puppies

2 Black & Tan Males
1 Black & Tan Female
1 Ruby MALE

OKAY I AM SHAKING LIKE A LEAF.

Now as you all know Lady does not live with my breeder, so therefore the
lady whom she resides with has pick of the litter.

I was balling my eyes out on the phone, my breeder is exhausted but
God Bless her she took the time to call me. She knows how excited and
anxious I am.
She cannot guarantee me that RUBY BOY until the lady decides.

Originally she wanted a Black and Tan Female

Now I asked my breeder if she was going to take him from me and she said no so please God do not let her friend take my baby.

This is going to kill me, the waiting my breeder will be in contact with me
once she has had some rest.

Oh God Bless Her for calling me.
I am balling my eyes out as I type this post.

Will I get my baby ??????????????
He was the only Ruby born

Gillian:

My breeder owns both of the Mom and Dad, and she does not want one,
Lady lives with a very close friend of hers and has raised her.
She originally wanted a female B/T as she wants to show and breed.
My breeder said she will wait for the next litter, so I just have to wait
to see what her Guardian is going to do.

Karlin:

In your very knowledgeable background, can you please answer a
question for me.

Would it be at all risky to keep a male from the litter of your children in the same house.
Just thinking that that may cause a accident, although I am positive that
good breeders seperate them when the time comes.

What a day yesterday, and now I still don't know, I know when we go
to see them I will melt anyway.

Karlin
30th March 2006, 04:12 PM
No, no issues aside from the usual precautions; remember Bruce is keeping a male from his current litter. Bruce can answer better than me!

In fact when we got Kayla our breeder , who owned the male, Gave us pick of the litter. As it was his due and he wanted to sell it anyway. So we got to choose. I thought that was nice.
She turned out beautiful and has the most wonderful nature. the breeder did help us choose.

We wouldn't think twice about keeping a male with offspring in the house, but then we are used to dealing with keeping the boys and girls separated. In fact, even when we are breeding a pair in our house, we keep them separated, except when the actual "deed" is being done. Breeding is a very structured thing.

Bruce:

If you were just starting out would you feel the same way, and also
if you are just starting out and actually don't own your own female,
would you keep the only female regardless of the things breeders look for.
Sorry I am just trying to weigh out my chances of getting that little
Ruby Boy.
Like I said, Lady is owned by my breeder but resides with someone else
who was looking to start showing and breeding. So with only one female being born what would you do. ????

Bruce I truly appreciate your opinion on this, I do not want to bother my
breeder for a while as I am sure she is very tired after the trauma
yesterday even although all is well now.

WoodHaven

Yes, I agree with Bruce. Breedings aren't only carefully planned, they are carefully orchestrated. There is a lot more too it than leaving a dog and a bitch together. Sandy

Karlin
31st March 2006, 01:43 AM
Linda, if she is looking to breed/show she will base her decision on the best prospect in the litter. The choice will likely come down to how each stacks up as a show potential. I doubt she will go by colour or sex alone unless she has a particular sex in mind and even then the one with the most potential will probably top her list regardless of sex, if she is just starting out.

Well I was lucky and my breeder emailed me this picture of the puppies
tonight. I just wanted to share.
Hopefully that little Ruby boy to the right will come home with me, if not
I will be most likely taking one of the Black and Tans.

thanks for the great photo. She doesn't look too bad for having a C section (ouch). she does look kind of wiped out though. The puppies already have nice looking coats. I hope you get your ruby boy. If not, you'll no doubt have a black and tan you adore, and you and your husband will both be saying it was meant to be. :)

Linda, that is a beautiful looking litter. Regardless of what happens, I'd say you are going to get a beautiful puppy.

When Kris and I were starting out, our third dog was a male. We were nervous about it, but we had a great mentor and she really helped us through dealing with the first few seasons and our boys "antics". Based on everything you have said on this and the other board, and if I were a betting man, I would put my money on you getting the ruby. BUT, who knows what the other person has in mind.

Just try to relax a bit and try not to try to guess what another person might do (easy to say, I know!); we don't want to hear about you giving yourself a nervous breakdown  Just know that whatever happens, you are going to get a very beautiful puppy.

Thank you Bruce

But you know, I am a big softie, and pretty emotional as you can tell by my posts. I feel like I have waited over 2 years for this puppy and
I will be very sad if I don't get him. Although the Black and Tans are
just as beautiful, my husband is standing his ground and is saying if
we don't get the Ruby then we will wait.
I know I should not be tearing myself up like this, but I cannot think of
anything else, deep inside I do feel I will get him but you just never know.
I value you opinion so much, and truly appreciate your support.
Believe me it is very hard to sleep, I am tossing and turning although
last night I did manage to get a few hours sleep.

Taking deep breaths.

Bruce when do you usually decide on whether a puppy is show quality
I thought it wasn't until they were around 6 to 8 wks. Can you tell
earlier than that. I hate to ask all these questions to my breeder, as
she knows how long I have waited but on the other hand she has to
give the Guardian I guess we can call her the pup of her choice.

Although the Black and Tans are

Oh--I misunderstood your first post where you said your husband said "if it's meant to be...." I thought he meant if you're meant to get a ruby you will, if not, you'll get whatever. So, that's different--oh i so hope you get your ruby boy. Two years waiting!!!!

I have heard people say you choose a breeder rather than choosing a dog. It sounds like that is your situation, since theoretically you could get a ruby cavalier elsewhere. I was told when i was looking for Zack that i might have to wait a long time to find a puppy from the right breeder, but that it was worth it and that was what i was strongly advised to do by one person in particular. Being new to purebred dogs, having only had mutt dogs before, and not having had a dog in 26 years, i ended up not heeding that advice. It wouldn't have been realistic for me to wait two years, and that was what was being suggested, if needed. And having contacted quite a few reputable breeders without success, i could see that it could easily take that long. But people who already have cavaliers and especially who already have a relationship with a breeder are in a different position. I can really see how you would wait if you have to.

I hope the other person comes to a quick decision, and that it's the right one!!

Hi Judy

Nope, no quick decisons coming at all.
I called her this morning, and she told me I will just have to wait and see and that will not be until 6 weeks of age at least.
As they usually take the best puppy regardless of the sex.
Let's hope he is not that puppy, I will not even be able to go and see him
until the middle of May.
But if she is taking him then I will not be going at all, she did say that
Lady's sister just delivered a female Ruby but her owner wants to keep
her also but if she changes her mind she will let me know she is already 3 weeks old. If not she will check to see if anybody else has a Ruby.
So I have a very very looooooooooooong 6 WEEKS ahead of me.

I am not feeling as excited as I was, I guess if it was meant to be it will

give as he see's how upset I am but I think his next preference would
be a Tri.

Maybe when I retire, I will have one of each.

I surely wish I could, I tried on Friday talking to my breeder she will
not give me any sort of idea at all.
I hate this torture, although I am going to start checking out other
breeders just in case. I would prefer to stay with my breeder, but this not knowing is not good for me.
I don't even know the lady who is going to pick, Lady's Guardian and I
cannot even go see them until the middle of May.
My hubby truly believes if it were meant to be it will happen.
I really appreciate everyone's caring and understanding, I often wonder

I am so happy, she did not want to take any chances having a son
living in the same house as the mother.

I was about to go see another Ruby this wkd who's breeder was also
undecided he was keeping the female but also wants to keep a male

I love the way puppies tails stand up when they nurse. Seems like the more vigorously they nurse, the higher the tails go. And yours is elevated the highest! To me that's a sign of a very healthy puppy.

Push hard, push very hard, for pictures of the face, especially when the eyes open.

Thanks Bruce, Roxanne scared the living day lights out of me she emailed me and asked me where his tail was.
I almost fainted I thought oh my God he doesn't have a tail.

I am already pushing for pics, but Nikki said the eyes should be opening
soon. Then I will be all over her before she leaves for her holidays
I want a picture of his face.
I said I love his bottom but I would love to see his face too.

Karlin, he is quite the little guzzler isn't he.
He had best leave some of that milk for that little black and tan

I know Claire, he must love that milk.
That is a good sign, Dudley is such a fussy eater so maybe this
little guy will not be so fussy.
We'll I defintely have learned from Dudley let me tell you and I will
not give in this time around as much as I did with Sir Dudley.

Oooh he's gorgeous. I love puppy milky bellies. Our Daisy Boo is really fussy too. Twinkle is a hoover. Her new trick is to run into the living room to hoover a mouthful of Daisy Boo's dinner before she is inevitably caught and put back in the kitchen where her own dinner is waiting for her. I swear she breaks the sound barrier when she runs

I will make you a bet right now that all that fussiness Mr Dudley may have shown up til now is about to disappear right out the window. Nothing ends a spate of food fussiness faster than competition. It is amazing how the prospect of another cavalier just waiting in the wings to eat what you apparently don't want turns those Mr (and Ms) Fussies right into champion eaters...

Karlin: I sure hope you are right, as this little bugger is still giving me
problems. He is always holding out for those chicken necks.

Stubborn boy, he had best not teach his brother those tricks.
Like you said maybe his brother well not literally his brother but
you know what I mean will teach him a thing or too.
They will be eating different food for a little while until I can
transition the pup over.
Have to find out more about that as he grows.

Not much longer though, I hope to go see him next week sometime.

Wondering if I should take Dudley, my hubby said Dudley must come.

The worst he will do is mark, what do you all think ?????
I was anxious to see how he would be next to him and plus if we
go on the Saturday we will be heading to the Caravan afterward.

He does look like he was in the queue before the others, but we
haven't seen them for a while.
I will get some pics when I go.

He's absolutely gorgeous. He reminds me of Daisy Boo when we first saw her. I think it's a good idea to bring Dudley - we didn't bring Daisy Boo when we went to meet Twinkle and we wondered why we hadn't afterwards. When we brought Twinkle home we got Kelvin's sister to carry her into the house so Daisy Boo would blame her instead of us - that seemed to work well so you might think of doing something like that.

I would definately bring Dudley if the breeder will allow it. Bring him every time you go to visit so the puppy gets used to seeing Dudley and remembers his smell when puppy goes home with you. Again, be sure it's OK with the breeder first.

What about when Darby has to come home, should we leave Dudley at
home. ??????
We were planning on bringing him not sure what to do.
I will speak with my breeder next week to see what her thoughts are as well.

We'll I had the best weekend ever, I got to finally see by little boy in person. He is just so sweet and spunky, he never
sits still squirmy little fellow almost dropped him. He is the smallest
puppy right now, and if you remember a while back he was sucking
mommy's milk so much he looked like he was ready to explode.

Here are a few pictures I took, and my poor poor Dudley was so so
stressed he was drooling so badly.
I felt so badly for him, I am not going to take him when I go to pick Darby up. He wanted nothing to do with him, but it was overwhelming
with the 4 puppies and 3 other cavaliers for him.

My baby and his siblings along with Mommy and Daddy are being
photographed by a representitive from Browntrout for the 2008 Calendar,
my breeder presently has 5 or 6 of her cavaliers in many of this years
calendars.

Here is my little sweetheart.
