Just thought I'd share that, due to the advice from the board, months and months ago I printed off the health information about cavaliers and gave a file on the breed to my vet, who had never had a cavalier patient before.
Yesterday, when Cedar and I stopped in to pick up some heartworm meds, the receptionist told me that, because of those papes, she was able to give some information and advice to a woman who had inquired at the office about Cavaliers. Because of what they learned about SM and MVD through those documents, they were able to educate the woman.

Way to go Cindy.
It was great of you to give that info to your Vet and that they passed
it on. :w**h**:

Wow, that's great! The more education that gets out there, the better to help this wonderful breed of dogs. You did a very helpful thing and now there are at least 2 more people that learned something. Hats off to you! cl*p

Hey, that's great -- vets really are general specialists on all animals and in my own experience, a good vets will listen, be interested and appreciate some extra info to help them advise their clients. :) And also, that information may help them to help a client if a dog is showing unusual symptoms -- so many people with SM dogs in particular can spend months, even years failing to get a diagnosis that could have relieved the pain sooner and prevented a lot of useless additonal tests and experiments with various drugs that won't be able to help. A lot of vets don't realise the extent of MVD in the breed either, or how early it can show, so helping vets to learn a bit more about cavaliers has so much potential to help other people and other cavaliers! :rah:

I only gave the info to the vet because of all the information here. I didnt know it all before, and I knew my vet didnt know. So it's all a collaborate effort to help the breed.
