Uk and Ireland members may be interested in getting a copy of the August Dogs Today magazine as it has an article by the well known vet Dr Bruce Fogle on syringomyelia in the breed and how various breeds have their own genetic issues (he wrote the Dorling Kindersley Dog Encyclopedia amogst other things and his son was the BBC presenter of Crufts this year).
There's also an interview with Sandy Smith about the book she wrote on her experience of SM and her lovely cavalier Ollie -- this book, For the Love of Ollie, is in its second printing and has raised $4,000 Canadian dollars for SM research. More info here on the book:

It's great that there's rising general awareness of this condition and what to watch out for. Dogs can vary hugely in level of affectedness and can benefit greatly from some fairly inexpensive medications so it is important for cavalier owners to know what to watch out for (just as with MVD).
