7 months and biting/chewing his own hair

Well our cavalier is getting close to his full size, and his hair is starting to get longer in the usual places (tail, ears, legs). Ever since we had him (when he was about 3 months I think) he has been chasing our shi-tsu around and trying to bite his hair. We tried to stop him every time, with mediate succes.

Now that his own hair is starting to get longer, he started biting at it himself. As a result his tailhair and pawhair is back to the way it was a few months ago and now he is constantly trying to get to the hair on his own ears.

It's not like he doesn't have enough toys to bite in, and he leaves cables and such alone, just bites slippers, his own hair, our shi-tsu's hair and has trashed a piece of carpet when he was home alone.

Does anyone know how to at least stop him from chewing his own hair of or if there is something we are fundamentally forgetting in his 'education' ?

I have two ear hair chewers. My dogs litterally have dozens of toys and I periodically take them up and rotate for variety-- they still find time to chew their ear hair. It is frustrating- nothing seems to deter them. I don't want to put "stuff" on their ears for fear of getting it in their eyes.

First of all, is he itchy? Does he have any noticeable scabs or redness where he's chewing from? Just wondering as Charlie was chewing his fur and also Maxx's and now we've found out from blood tests that he has multiple allergies and he's on Immuno suppressant medication

Maybe get him to the Vets for a check up? If nothing shows up then maybe consult a behaviour specialist. Good luck and let us know how you get on :flwr:

PS Hope your Cav is insured? If not then get him insured and quick before you start making veterinary investigations - they are pretty expensive :yikes
