With our small dogs, we have probably heard this type of comment from other dog owners... but maybe we have made it ourselves. Either way tbis is an excellent article to read.

One of the other lists offered this link. This might be your dog -- or you might have been a victim of this type of dog.... and there are some good pointers on what to watch out for in dog behaviour and body stance, how to avoid problems in the first place, etc.

What a wonderful piece, Karlin. That lady is so right, we can all learn a heck of a lot from actually watching our dogs.

I must admit, I always watch dog behaviour and am a pretty good judge of what might happen next. I learned an awful lot from watching my beloved GSD (now at the bridge) interact with other dogs.

She'd never ever hurt another dog but was very respectful of them - she also demanded a high level of respect. My mates used to call her 'Your Ladyship'

I might actually print that off and present it to this guy who lives near me. He has an extremely handsome GSD who seems at first sight to be completely aggressive and untrainable. If you look into the poor dogs eyes though, you'll see that it is completely terrified :(

I have suggested to him previously that the dog needs socialising, maybe even with a muzzle on at first but most definitely off lead in a controlled situation. His response was 'Nah, I like him to protect me and be aggressive' :x I don't think he liked it when I told him that he shouldn't have a dog
