Maddy's first night

My husband picked up our new little girl last night. I am so jealous because I am not there to see her. I will see her tomorrow night.
Anyway, I have called several times and spoke to her on the speakerphone. He said she really pays attention. Of course she has only met me at the breeders and I think by tomorrow night she will think my hubby is hers and I will be the intruder!
He said he took her outside immediately but she was scared and hid under the patio chair. Around midnight she wimpered and he jumped up to take her out but it was already too late.
He took her out at 5am and she did not go again. He is feeding her now and will take her out 15 minutes or so after that.
Of course she is only 12 weeks old so we are not expecting miracles, just want to get her used to the routine.

Pamh i got my little man on sat and he was afraid outside the first day and was hiding under my car! we have gone on walks everyday this week and he refuses to go to pottie outside so i am trying to train him on the paper, he is only 9 weeks old so he is still quiet young!!

Oh, Coconut your puppy looks very sturdy! Is that the 9 week old in the avatar? The breeder told us not to take her for a walk on a leash for another month. Are you taking yours for a walk in the country without a leash? There's so much I don't know. It has been 14 years since we had a puppy and my memory isn't that good. We did buy a book on cavaliers that my husband has been reading carefully.

Other than letting your puppy get used to a lead, which you can do at home, don't formally walk your puppy or you can cause growth problems. A puppy gets all the exercise it needs while exploring home territory. She will need socialising though, but she can be carried for the early parts of this,once vaccination is completed, of course. I'm sure there's a thread about this somewhere on here

I've always been told brief puppy walks are fine, especially for older puppies (16 weeks and older) -- and indeed are important so that a puppy meets lots of people and dogs, hears various noises, and socialises well -- but the most important thing is that a puppy shouldn't be walked outside until 10 days to 2 weeks after it has its final round of puppy shots. For most puppies that means about age 12-16 weeks -- so check with the vet about the advisability of walks.

keep in mind this breed has NO road sense at all and should never be off lead anywhere near traffic either -- especially not a puppy.

If you are housetraining I strongly recommend:

1) buying/ordering Shirlee Kalstone's Housetraining a Dog in Seven Days; easily available from Amazon in the US or UK. This gives all the steps to do housetraining in a productive and positive way.
2) training to go directly outside and skipping papers. Using papers means you have to housetrain TWICE -- once to papers, then all over again to go outside.

Final round on monday, so i will stop him from walking, all we have being doing is walking to the top of my road and back which is about a 5 min walk, but i didn't know that will stop walking him until all his shots are completed! thanks a mill for that!

Feel really bad no my poor puupy

Is the reason that they should not be walking until shots are done because they meet other dogs with issues?
My husband took Maddy out on a vacant lot near us which is away from everyone.
The breeder did say we should take her to the outside mall etc. to socialize her (carrying her).
