Our Holiday "Masterpiece"

Well-known member
We do an interesting family photo shoot every year--then alter it with Photoshop. This one was designed to feature our new Cavalier. I enjoyed researching Cavs in historical paintings and settled on this one. The picture-in-picture features a prior year's holiday picture, but is a bit of an "in joke" if you have not seen it or know us.

If anyone is interested, the original can be seen at:

The original of this is in PARIS!!! Go see it at Musee des Arts Decoratifs.

I could probably find a lot of links to Cavalier painting that I found, if anyone wants me to start that sort of thread. You would be surprised how many and how easy they are to find. We picked this one because it had just the right amount of people to match our family--husband, wife, married son and wife, unmarried son and daughter. The Springer Spaniel in the original painting is a child. The Cavalier is almost as cute as Lord Barkleigh.

If any one is interested, a couple of years ago I put up a few pages of "Cavaliers In Art" on my personal website. I did it for my own reference, but some of you may like seeing all the different paintings with our beloved little dogs in them! Here are my pages: http://www.dilettante.info/cavsinart.htm

I didn't link to the big versions of the paintings, but I've included the artist names when possible so you can search around for a larger version. You may even be able to find prints of them at a site like www.art.com or the like.

Enjoy!

This is a fantastic site! I have a lot of new ones that everyone might like. Some have copyright watermarks but are interesting. I'll try to start posting some in a thread I'll start when I get caught up here. Maybe it would be a fun thing to research with so many art and dog lovers from many countries with different resources.

Keys to the Picture

There are some funny things added if anyone wants to know.

The hurdy-gurdy instrument in my husband's hand (the guy with the beard) was made by him this year! He build instruments for a hobby. The banjo was added to my older son, because he plays it. The Springer replaces a child in the photo. This dog saved our son and his wife from a home invasion recently. He's the family hero right now.

The whole family posed in front of a green screen with preise lighting, including the dogs. My older son is a specialist in computer graphics and did most of the Photoshop work. My husband is a professional film director and worked on it as well. I did the art research.

The previous holiday picture features an addition to our home that we all worked on and thus the 5 of us are repeated over and over throughout that picture. (Get a magnifying glass.)

The books include the title of one of my novels and the title of my daughter's forthcoming autobiography being published next year. (And she's only 21!)

And of course Barkleigh is the love of our lives.
