There has been much discussion, recently, about the amount of exercise given to a puppy and , while people realise that a young dog does not need formal walking, they are unsure about when it becomes appropriate, so this advice, given on another site, by a well respected breeder of successful show dogs :
She says that in a young puppy, if you feel the fronts of the legs, just above the feet, you can feel a ridge in the bone. At about 7-8 months, depending on the dog, this ridge smooths out, showing that the bone is ready to take more effort. Puppies should not be formally pavement walked, evne at 8 months, if this ridge is evident.
