I'm not sure of the age limits here, but here are recent photos of Tibby (age 7)

Oh the little darlings. I have such a soft spot for the seniors. Something in my heart always gets tugged when I see them. They are so precious with their years of love & loyalty. :lotsaluv:

I do have a soft spot for any senior dog. A puppy gets a lot of attention and it shows when they wiggle about when you meet one. But a senior has this glint in their eye when they get unexpected attention. I always notice that - I swear it adds another yr back in their life!

Charlie is just a darling - there is something so special about the oldies - the "been there, done that, got the t-shirt" look - but still enjoy their cuddles, walkies and of course, FOOD

Tibby and Wallis are lovely - poor Wallis' eye, she is so brave.

Here are my Oldies:

Kyla was 7 earlier this month - she's a retired breeding/show dog, who came to live with us last September. She's rather enjoying her retirement, lots of cuddles and walkies, and is very gentle and sweet with Rupert.

http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v510/RupertsMum/Kyla/AdjKyla_MG_3475.jpg

and this is Rupert, he is 10 years 8 months, and the naughtiest of the lot!!! He's had his moments healthwise, but we are very fortunate in that he is still heart clear.

Rupert's 8th birthday party {he was poorly earlier that year and we didn't think we'd get to celebrate that birthday with him...let alone 2 more since :D }

Thanks for putting up this forum. I have a special place in my heart for the seniors, especially Cavs with all their health problems. It is amazing to see so many. It is a tribute to you owners who have taken such good care of and loved these dogs so they could see such a long life.

All of the pictures are beautiful! I just pray that I will be able to put Lily's picture here one day and perhaps future Cavs.

Aren't they all beautiful? I'd be hard pressed to pick one - besides my own! Wallis looks really rough compared to the others, but I have to remind myself that we are in a bit of a crisis situation right now.

I'm so glad that so many people are posting. I was beginning to think that not only am I the oldest in this group but that I also had the oldest dogs!

Isn't the wisdom in their eyes amazing?

Hi everyone
Just found this new thread. Here is my boy Toby. We think he is about 9 this year. We are not too sure as he is just 'residing' with us at the moment and his true owners have the papers.

Heres my darling SiânE. Now 8 years old, 3 years with diabetes. As you can't help but see she now is blind from the cataracts but Shhh don't tell SiânE that as she hasn't notice yet ;) . She still goes about her daily business without a care in the world even if she does bump into things now and then.

http://i14.photobucket.com/albums/a317/dabbie_uk/SianE/DSC_0003.jpg

And heres SiânE friend from over the park. Little Dylan who at 14 years young, heart problems but is still quiet a character who shows that Ruby's may grow old but they still stay naughty icon_devil (especially after losing weight meant he could now jump on the coffee table to get to the biscuits).

Thats a really interesting observation! I wonder if it is true everywhere? Any breeders that track lines etc out there that know if it might be true in anyway?

Arne

I have had a Ruby who lived to be 14 plus, a B & T who lived to be 12 and my current B & T is 12.

Whole colours are rarer so naturally they wont be so many of them as oldies compared to the more numerous parti colours.

Actually I read in several places that the wholecolours can be sturdier, and apparently Cecily's vet told her the same thing. Ditto re males being more likely to suffer early onset MVD that females. Probably completely anecdotal and no basis on fact- but there's no denying that Amber's BT granny is going strong at 11 and had shown no health problems at all until very recently.... it was enough to make me go for two wholecolour bitches.

Karlin
2nd March 2007, 02:25 AM
A long time ago there was some basis in fact for this as fewer wholecolours were bred and the gene pool was narrow -- however particolours were bred in to make the pool wider and improve the robustness, from my understanding -- hence you do get a lot of mismarked wholecolours as a result from the particolour lines bred in.

Bet would probably know the answer to this! :) She had some trouble logging on but should be dipping in now and again.

I don't think there's any link between colour and health. Though that said almost all the cavaliers I know of with EFS have been rubies but that may just be an anomaly.

This is Vanity, age 9...these pictures were taken when she was 8 (her birthday was in February!).

http://photos.pe.facebook.com/v45/217/72/19100062/n19100062_30250092_2869.jpg

Something that my family has been noticing as she's gotten older (we've never had a Cavalier before) is that her coat seems to be getting thinner. Is this par for the course?

Anyhow, it is really heartwarming to see all these photos here. Vanity has recently been diagnosed with some health problems, though the vet still thinks she'll live into her teens. I hope she'll get to live as full a life as others in this thread. :)

Bet, I thought you would like the picture of Biggles, who was posing beautifully after his bath for once. He would have been about 8 or 9 then as it was before I got Arne.

Arne is Linvid Stitch in Time, out of Linvid Last Rose, a daugher of Ch Linvid Red Rose and his sire is Dalvreck Dorocha out of Keirlian Limited Edition and Costera Willow of Dalvreck. On his mums side it makes Merlin his G Uncle.

Jassy says his parentage is so exclusive he is not revealing it.
