Parasite - Tritichomonas Foetus (TF)

Mon Feb 26, 2007 2:38 pm (PST)
There is a fairly new parasite, referred to as Tritichomonas Foetus
(TF), which is said to linger in raw meats (it's especially said to
be in raw red meats) and it is causing gastro problems in animals.
If your dog was diagnosed with girardia and/or coccidia but Flagyl
didn't take care of the problem, you might want to have your vet
order the special test for TF. Many vets aren't familiar with TF as
this is a fairly new parasite. The medication used to treat TF is
Ronidazole.

I do not know of any research being done in the canine world, but
research in felines has been done.

It is extremely important that all raw meats be deeply frozen for at
least 72 hours prior to feeding it raw to our animals. Freezing
supposedly kills off this parasite.

Please cross post to all of your animal lists to spread the word on
this.
