what a lot of dogs :(
small dogs for adoption are rare here in the UK. When they do arrive, theyre not at the centre for 5 mins as people snap them up quickly. I was on the list for 6 months for a small dog and received no phone calls . I would have adopted any of those dogs (apart from the jack russell)

I know several UK general rescues that bring Irish smallies over, out of the pounds etc. While this can be controversial to many in rescue in the UK, the issue is as you say: these rescues could home many times over, the Irish smallies due to demand for small dogs. I always say to the objectors in the UK that the UK rescues need to network more to move smallies from areas where they languish in pounds and shelters to where there is a demand to imprive the chances for all dogs in the UK, which is basically what Irish rescuers and some UK rescuers do now to address this issue and save more dogs.
Alternatively if UK people wanted to come to Dublin on the ferry they would have a huge choice of smallies every week in our pounds. :( Lots of terriers for example.
On the other hand there are lab and collie rescues that have waiting lists in the UK whereas we find it very hard to home these breeds/crosses over here.
