• If you're a past member of the board, but can't recall your password any more, you don't need to set up a new account (unless you wish to). As long as you recall your old login name, you can log in with that user name then select 'forgot password' and the board will email you at your registration email, to let you reset your password.

This has been interesting. We went Sunday to register and Mika met a huge black lab. She shrieked and screamed like someone was trying to murder her! I watched the whole thing - the lab just came up to sniff her - was still a good foot away when Mika freaked. It was weird.

Class tonight went much better. She was still VERY nervous, but no screaming. She did very well on her sits, downs and come, but we've been working with her, so expected that.

Off leash free-play was funny. All the big dogs chased each other abound the middle of the room, while all the little dogs lined the wall and watched. Mika hid under the chairs. She did eventually creep out to visit (cling to) some people - not dogs. Shy as she was, everyone absolutely loved her!

They're be splitting the class in two next week, so maybe she will feel more comfortable with fewer pups.

She's been around 2 other dogs quit a bit (friend's dogs) and is not a bit shy - very outgoing with them. I suppose this is all a new situation and so many dogs makes it all a bit overwhelming.

Poor thing was exhausted when we got home, but I think it was more mental then physical.
 
That sounds like it is gradually getting to be fun for her rather than scary! That's why classes are so great when they are young -- they get a good chance to mix with dogs of all breeds, sizes and ages, AND to be around lots of different people too. :) Imagine how huge a lab must look to a little cavalier though... ;)
 
:D Sounds very similar to what goes on in our puppy classes. My Beau is an outgoing little fellow but he trembled on his first day. By his second class he was trying his hand at alpha-rolling anybody who would let him icon_blshing and his best friends turned out to be the biggest puppies in the class.

We have had quite a few screemers come through too. They sounded like they were getting their throats cut if anything looked at them, but it has been fun watching them come out of their shells. It is lovely to watch as their little tails start going higher & higher & they start bopping around with the other dogs.

Our class is at the local showground & there are all sorts of dog things going on. Before the classes start all the dogs are on leash in the same area and it is wonderful to be walking the baby puppies among well behaved adult GSD, Mastifs, Rottis, Great Danes etc. They are all so well behaved & sweet and stand there letting the babies jump all over them & lick their faces. It is great for everyone. I love it!
 
Training

Yes Mika from the UK is also doing training classes. It has been a great socialising exercise, with all the dogs big and small. He really is not phased by much now.
We have to weave in and out of all the dogs at the beginning of the class. The dog warden came last week and she was very impressed by Mikas ability to walk past all the other dogs without flinching.
I reccomend training classes to anyone.:razz:

It's good to know she is not the only screamer. I've never heard such a sound come out of a dog! I think she will be fine, but I'm sure glad we're taking the class and she has the opportunity to get over this now.
