• If you're a past member of the board, but can't recall your password any more, you don't need to set up a new account (unless you wish to). As long as you recall your old login name, you can log in with that user name then select 'forgot password' and the board will email you at your registration email, to let you reset your password.

The trials of having socialised a puppy in deep-winter, only to find that he's terrified... of summer :D Or kindof...

Sammy is at this moment sitting trembling in the back of my sauna (the furthest, darkest place in my apartment) because he met a tiny blue-bottle fly while on the balcony that followed him into the living room, to his extreme anguish.

He was always a scaredy-cat with new things as a puppy, but I did my utmost to socialise him, so he's actually very out-going with most things now. But that was during -20oC. Now he's nine months, it's +25oC, and he has a fly-phobia :D I shouldn't laugh. But it was crazy to see him run around the flat in fear of a tiny fly. It brings new meaning to 'wouldn't hurt a fly', which everyone has been saying about him because he's so nice and soft natured. He wouldn't hurt the fly, but he's sure scared that it'll hurt him.

On another note, what on earth do I do to get him out of the sauna, since the blue-bottle is probably still somewhere in the flat. He wags his tail when I go to him, but he's still shaking and refusing to budge. :rolleyes:
 
Is it possible that he has been stung and you haven't realized. That could explain why he is afraid of the fly.:) Bet it is comical to watch though.:D
 
Oh poor little Sammy, I had to laugh as Digby is very scared of flies and will spin around and slam his bottom on the floor as if the fly is trying to get in his bum even if it is flying on the other side of the room so I know exactly what you are talking about. I think it is an instinct thing ? although Digby likes to chase and then eat bees and has had his fair share of stings :rolleyes: so who knows ?

We live in Australia and have heaps of flies in summer and there is nothing I have managed to do to help him get over it. I just ignore him if he is being silly as I don't want him to get too sucky and make sure the area is safe as he will charge at windows and things trying to kill a dreaded fly.
 
Oh poor little guy. I was wondering if he might have gotten stung too. Australia is full of biting & stinging insects, so that is was came to mind.
 
At first I thought it might be something trying to sting or bite him. But it turned out to be a small blue-bottle (house fly). I managed to swat it, so with great apprehension he eventually agreed to come out!
