Eye surgery for cavaliers.

My husband took Daisy to the vet this evening.Basically just for a check up and to get flea/worm treatment and some ear drops as she seemed to be scratching her right ear a lot and mites were suspected.
Soooo, he came back with ear ointment for ears and he remarked that the vet had suggested eye surgery as Daisy's lower eyelids were ingrowing a bit and that to do it now would minimise scarring.This came as a surprise as there was no indication of any problem with her eyes apart from some watering.Should I get a second opinion?

Our India had a slight case of entropian in both eyes, so the vet performed a laser procedure on her lower lids when she was 1 year old.

Tiny eyelashes that were turned inward had been irritating her eyes, causing them to water. I read about the condition and found that they can scratch and scar their corneas if they rub their eyes on carpets, etc. She did rub her eyes quite often, so we had the problem fixed before her eyes were damaged.

She's almost 10 months.Her eyes certainly water more than they used to so perhaps he's right.She has a bad eye infection when we first got her at 12 weeks and needed antibiotic treatment and her lower lids had thickened considerably,but happily she made a full recovery so it was because of her history hubby had asked to vet to check her eyes.
It wasn't our regular vet but his partner who doesn't specialise in small animals who examined her so he did say that dogs weren't his area of expertise.It seems to be the lower lids, I'll take her to my parent's vet who's superb with dogs and see what he thinks.if laser treatment is available I'd prefer that option to having the skin surgically excised.

If your parent's vet doesn't have laser, try looking for an vet ophthalmologist. The laser procedure is so much easier. Good luck!:flwr:
