• If you're a past member of the board, but can't recall your password any more, you don't need to set up a new account (unless you wish to). As long as you recall your old login name, you can log in with that user name then select 'forgot password' and the board will email you at your registration email, to let you reset your password.

Dognapping warning in Ireland!

Hello Fellow Dog Owners,

We would like to take the opportunity to remind you that there is
currently a spate of dog knapping around Dublin and surrounding
areas. Some of you may have heard the piece on FM104.

The dog is stolen and then a ransom is requested within a certain
time. The ransom can be anything from 100 upwards with some ransoms
being reported at over 1000.

Small pedigree dogs such as Cavalier King Charles, West Highland
terriers, Bischons etc are also being stolen to order or to be bred
from. It is vital that you stay vigilant and most important that you
keep your pet safe and indoors when you are not there.

How you can prevent this happening to you:

Do not leave puppies and dogs outside unsupervised
Make sure your garden is secure with gates locked
Microchip your puppy or dog and log onto www.fido.ie and make sure
you are the registered owner. Just because your dog or puppy has a
microchip does not mean you are the registered owner. Ensure all of
your details are up to date and correct.
Tag your puppy or dog as follows:

REWARD
MICROCHIPPED
NEUTERED
Phone:
Phone2:
Phone immediately if found

Insure your dog. As part of insurance there is a fund used to place
ad's, offer rewards etc. Allianz provide excellent cover and a
discount when you purchase online

Be vigilant, report any suspicious behaviour in your area. Make your
neighbourhood watch scheme aware of this.

If your dog goes missing do the following:

Report it to the Gardai filling out a report if you feel your dog
has been stolen
Contact your local dog pound daily by visiting to view the dogs,
phoning is not enough as they deal with many dogs
Provide local vets, rescue groups and pounds with a photo of your
dog. Put a lost ad in local shops, your local paper and the major
newspapers
Log onto http://www.lostandfound.ie
for more tips and upload all the relevant details including a photo
of your lost dog

Dognapping makes me so mad! I was watching "The Wright Stuff" recently (A discussion show where at the start the panel review the newspapers. A panalist read out a story about a couple who had paid £750 ransom to get there much loved dog back. She then said "what were they thinking! it's only a dog, just go & get another one!" this absolutely outraged me:eek: Yes I agree that if you pay out to these dreadful people you are just encouraging them to continue with this crime, but who knows what we would do to get our pets back. I know I would do everything in my power to help my cats & dog! Rant over:D Judy x
