• If you're a past member of the board, but can't recall your password any more, you don't need to set up a new account (unless you wish to). When can you start giving pups heartworm preventatives? Our boys are 23 weeks old and they go back to the vet next week to get their rabies shots. Should they get on a preventative then? Thanks!
 
Your vet can tell you what the procedure is in your area. It can be different in different parts of the country depending on whether there's a heartworm season or not (eg how cold it gets). It is probably year round in Miss. Not sure what age you start.
 
The vet will need to take a small blood sample to make sure your pups don't have heartworm before they are given the medication.

My pups were started on heartworm meds right away because it was during mosquito season.
