Dry eye.

i'm so gutted for my baby

vet has given her antibiotic drops to use for 2 weeks, and artificial eye drops which she most probably will need for life.

whats the long term prognosis guys?? whats the chance of her having to have her eye removed???

I don't think she will need to have her eye removed. I think you should tell her breeder though. If other pups in her litter have the same problem, she will need to know for her breeding program.

So sorry to hear this.

Yes, as Pauline says, do be very sure tell the breeder, that is very important so no further puppies are produced with this problem. It is probably not a breeding she will want to duplicate.

Your vet can tell you the prognosis -- it really depends on how severe her condition is but if you have caught it early that is a big bonus as damage is probably not significant. It would probably be worth going to an eye specialist. I know that it is a lifelong care issue as they need daily drops and for the eyelids and area around the eyes kept washed and clean. I think generally as long as you provide the proper daily care, then there's no reason she'd lose an eye.

thanks guys,

the vet said he'd be suprised if she did lose her eye but it may be required if we couldn't control it.

it has been caught early, and he hopes she responds well to the treatment

i'm so pleased i had heidi spayed, as i know it can be passed on, i will inform her breeder tomorrow, when kids are at school and i can hear myself think xxxxx
