Hi we've just joined. We have a 1 1/2 year old ruby cavalier called Ruby! She is gorgeous but has been diagnosed a couple of months ago with mild SM - she does scratch a lot, mostly when she is resting. We are trying medication at the moment but it doesn't appear to be helping much but she is a happy dog and is always hungry!

Bye for now

Welcome to the boards, sorry to hear about Ruby's SM hope all goes well and that she stays happy & hungry :D

Welcome and I am so sorry about your dogs SM diagnosis. Hopefully it will not progress any further! :xfngr:

Welcome Ruby - sorry to hear about the diagnosis, as you will see it is something many many of us are dealing with too, and hopefully we will be able to help and support you.

Some basic advice - try using a harness rather than a collar - you may need to experiment for a while to find something that is comfortable for Ruby. Also try raising food and water bowls - even just try putting a telephone directory under them to start with!

Have a look at the sister site to this, http://sm.cavaliertalk.com/, there is lots of information and some you can print off to show your vet.
