sunshine poked her eye again!

Is it normal for this breed to have eye injuries or is sunshine clumsy? I told the vet she might need goggles to go out in the backyard. Any way it is the same eye as last time, we got drops again to clear it up and keep any infection out. Hopefully it will heal up as well as it did last time. Right now it is still really cloudy.

One of my girls injured her eye a while back, walking through very long grass and it took ages to heal. I think it's because their eyes bulge, that it's easy to get a scratch so you just have to be careful where they walk/play .......................... not easy, I know!!

I would see an eye specialist -- if she is having regular accidents it sounds like she may have some vision problems. With four cavaliers representing a collective 14 years now, I have only ever had one get a slight scratch.

They do have very large eyes though, and if she plays in the garden it is a good idea t trim back all low sharp shrubbery branches etc. Maybe put up a low fence around areas that could cause a problem.

I'd start by seeing an eye specialist though.

Bandit got his eye poked twice in one week! Once, my daughter accidently poked his eye playing with him (she has since cut her nails short!) and we went to the vet for that one since I wasn't sure if it was serious. They stained his eye, saw the scratch, prescribed an antibiotic cream and he was better after two days. Then, about 4 or 5 days later, he was doing the same thing with his eye again! I do think they are more prone to eye injury. Their eyes are so prominent, and I noticed both Pixie and now Bandit don't seem as protective of their eyes. They will get right into the action and never blink!

I had read somewhere it is not safe to allow cavaliers near rose bushes or thorny shrubs like barberry. It is because of their slightly buggy eyes. Does she have access plants like that?

where would I find an eye specialist, would my vet know? Yes we have rose bushes and she likes to sniff around in there...I haven't thought of fencing it off, I will look into that.
