We have a foster for the last several months who has epilepsy and I thought I would add some links that have been very helpful to me. There are a few methods on how to stop or reduce a seizure in progress: one with ice packs and the other is ocular compression. The first link is a central source of medical info and it has been invaluable. Hope this info can help others who may need it.

Our foster sees the neurologists at LIVS and has had MRIs, CAT scans, thermography and BAER testing (she's part of their SM study). She has petit mal seizures and fortunately no brain tumors or SM. She is on a small dosage of PhB twice a day with testing semi-annually to determine her pheno levels and liver function. We hope she will be able to be weaned from phenobarbitol in the future (as it can damage the liver)! She has not had any issues since going on the PhB.
Two of the things we did that helped the vets to diagnose her condition were:
1. journaling each episode: date/time and what symptoms she was having and if there was any thing else related (outdoors/indoors? Hot out? Lots of exercise? Ate recently? etc.)
2. Videotaped 2 episodes on our cellphone to show to the vet.
I just want to give a big thank you to Karlin for the information on the low cost MRIs and SM study being done by LIVS with Dr. Marino and Dr. Barrone. I would not have known about it except for Karlin and they are a wonderful facility. So many thanks Karlin for always keeping us update with information!
