Both my dogs love the smell of satsumas, my boyfriend gave them some the other week when i wasn't around and now i have to make them go in their bed if i want to eat one as they love the smell/taste so much.

My question is... are satsumas/clementines harmful to dogs?

would i be able to use them as training treats? they honestly get sooooooo excited when i grab one, anyone would think i hadn't fed them for a week or something!

It's best to do a google search on any item you are uncertain about, before you start feeding it, if you don't know whether it could be harmful. Waiting til after the dog has eaten something could of course be very risky to the health and even life of a pet. There are many lists of dangerous foods available online, and I link to some in the Library section as well.

For example:

Citrus seems fine but citrus oil extracts should not be given. :)

Thanks for the info Karlin, i gave the OH a strict telling off as soon as he'd given them some and they haven't had any since(especially as Lily the westie is on a hypoalergenic diet because of poorly skin!).

Maybe i can get Bailey to do a 'down' now with satsumas as nothing so far can tempt her enough!!

I used to have a Pom who loved the oranges so much I would hide in my bedroom to eat them (I know that wasn't proving I was boss but I was very young).
