I've treated myself to a gorgeous calendar for Christmas - The CKCS in Fine Art. I have been very good and not opened it, but through the cellophane on the back I can read a lovely little poem by the writer E.V.Lucas which I thought everyone would enjoy:
Of all the dogs that are so sweet,
The spaniel is the most complete.
They're always merry, always hale;
Their eyes are like October ale.
They never sulk, they never tire;
They love the field, they love the fire.
They never criticize their friends;
Their every joy all joy transcends.
I think the poem is really about spaniels in general, rather than Cavaliers in particular, but it seemed to fit our very special little dogs. Alas, for many on this forum our Cavaliers are not 'always hale', but enjoy them while you have them, especially this Christmas and in the coming year.
Happy Christmas to all, two and four legged,
from Kate and Oliver
