Is my male "marking"?

Ok seems like I can't have a throw rug on the floor as its used like a pee pad and no the breeder did not use them. I have washable pads like nursing homes use that I put in the crates and of course he pees in there. A few days ago I said he's old enough where he should not be peeing in the crate at night and I get tired of getting up and taking him out so I took the pads out which are like cotton blankets in a sense and of course NO peeing. Now this new problem is getting to us. We have about 5 dog beds downstairs and my gosh this guy is peeing in all the dog beds. I can't hardly lift the dog beds because the other 3 suffer then. I've only had one other male dog and still have him and he didn't do this. Bentley got neutered and a little under a year if that matters. What do we do?????

I might also add that we got Chelsea the b&t 5 days ago BUT he has on occasion wet in the dog beds--a couple times I think. In the crate he has alot until I took those pads out. He is housebroken.

are you saying he wasn't peeing on all the rugs/beds until Chloe came? If the vet rules out a medical problem, it may be marking. I do know that both Lizzie and Pixie liked to pee on fabric, and I still don't leave rugs down. If Lizzie has to go, she will go find something soft to pee on. I think maybe it is also that they don't like the pee splattering up on them.

I don't really have any suggestions other than this may be marking due to Chloe, an unspayed female being in the home all of a sudden, or you might need to back up with your housebreaking and "start over". Karlin has posted quite a few times about the best way to go about starting over if you do a search of the board.

Ok, you have a full housetraining from scratch job in front of you. I would not be using crates -- he clearly is not cratetrained or housetraind. Dogs generally will never pee in a crate and under NO circumstances should a dog be confined all night in a crate with padding coated in pee.

Please order Shirlee Kalstone's book on housetraining and recognise you will need to treat him exactly as an untrained puppy. You are going to need to manage him with pens and have him under control 100% of the time. There are also many links on housetraining in the Library section and I would read them all.

However first I would immediately get him to a vet to eliminate the chance that he may have a urinary tract infection. This would be a very urgent first step as untreated, a UTI can turn to a serious kidney infection.

I would also recommend downloading Dr Ian Dunbar's FREE book After you get your Puppy. It doesn't matter that the book has 'puppy' in the tile; you will need with this dog to be addressing all the same training, care and socialising issues.
