Poorly Little Bailey

Well, some of you will reember the problems we have had since having Bailey, and her on and off coughing and trips to the vets!

Well unfortunately about 3 weeks ago the cough returned and Bailey became very poorly quite quickly, she was put on antibiotics and panacur (in case of lung worm) but unfortunately this did not clear the cough. She has since had chest and throat X-Rays which show a arge amount of bronchial inflamation in her chest.

She has been prescribed steroids (prednisolone) which she taks morning and night. She has been on this for week and it doesn;t aappear to have helped :( Yesterday we were back at the vets due to eye and nose mucus on top of all of this and she is now also on antibiotics.

I have a very lathargic little puppy and have been advised by my vet that we may have to make a decision about her future if the medication does not help:cry*ing:to say i am gutted is an understatement. The poor little thing will be 10 months old on tuesday and has had at least 8 of those months of having to go back and forth to the vets. Its just heartbreaking.

I am still trying to get the breeder to reimburse my vet fees, however she is ignorin my letters! this is such a stressful time, i just wanted to let you all know what was hapening with my little baby girl.

Emily, I'm so sorry that little Bailey is poorly again. Sending you loads of :hug::hug:.

I hope that Bailey gets better soon :flwr:

How have you been sending your correspondence to the breeder? If it was by normal post, she could say she never received it, but if you send it by Special Delivery, at least it can be tracked online and you know when she has received it.

Don't give up chasing the breeder for reimbursement - have you thought of going to see a solicitor? Maybe a letter from a solicitor might shock her enough to reimburse you.

I'm so sorry, i really hope the vets are able to help Bailey get better x
and I agree with rosiesmum don't give up with the breeder and send the letters signed for so you have proof they received them, good luck

x

Im so sorry to hear that Bailey is so unwell, it must be heartbreaking to see her so young and so ill.
Hopefully the little fighter in her will be able to overcome whatever it is that is causing her to be so sick and she will be able to be the happy little healthy puppy like she deserves.
Give her a big kiss from me :lotsaluv:

So sorry to hear about poor Baileys troubles, I realy hope she can fight this.

Can you take the breeder to the small claims court? I would definatly get a solicitors letter.

I am so sorry to hear about Bailey. Have you consulted with any specialists about her that might have more experience and a fresh perspective?

Í´m so sorry to read this about your little Bailey :hug::hug:
I hope she´ll have the strenght to fight this :xfngr:

It really P***** me off though that the breeder has no interest in this matter...:bang: and that he/she takes no action......Why bother with breeding if you no longer care about the pups once they leave the "nest"?

Oh, what heartbreaking news. No one should have to go through all this. My heart breaks for you and Bailey. Judy

Oh I hope Bailey gets through this soon. I would probably get another opinion from another vet and ask to be referred to a specialist. Best of luck and :xfngr: for a speedy recovery

Thanks everyone, we have had second and thir opinions, but unfortunately i am unable to finance the specialist. When i bought Bailey i immediately bought insurance, but she became ill immediately and so as it was in the 14 day 'settling in period' i am covered for nothing! As a guestimation, i have probably spent over £1000 in the last 7 months on vet bills etc (nearly £300 of that in the last 3 weeks!!). Luckily my vet will let me pay it off slowly which is very nice of them.

My vet has also put Bailey's case together in report form and has faxed this to Bristol RVC who have agreed to look at Bailey's case in paper form for no fee - we should hear back from these later in the week, but no vet has ever been optimistic about Bailey's long-term health.

My initial plan was to go to Small Claims, but was told by animal welfare dept in local council who i complained to that when they had been out they had discussed Bailey's health with the breeder and she has said she wasn;t aware of a sick puppy - luckily i kept all the emailss i sent hr and recieved in June/July when the trobles started! She said to animal welfare that she would 'put things right' (whatever this means), and the animal welfare man told me quite abruptly that i now couldn;t take her to court as she had "made an offer". Well i wrote to her asking her to clarify her 'offer' and to explain what exactly she would do to "put it right", i also stated i wanted full reimbersement for vet bills to date. I sent recorded delivery and emailed and have heard nothing, so yesterday i wrote a second letter - stating that should i not hear from her in the next 7 days i will be contacting trading standards and listing in Small Claims Court. I have no idea if she will reply, but it will look bad in court on her if she doesn;t bother.

Has anyone been through small claims? would be greatful to hear how straight forward things are.

You can take her to the small claims court as she did not honor her offer. Do you have any proof from the animal welfare officers that she made an offer to make things right? From what I can grasp, she never put any offer in writing. You go for it. It won't cost you much. Print your emails off for safe keeping too.

My dad has been through small claims a few times, always successfully. I think, though I am not sure, it might cost you 10% of your claim. So if you claim £1000 you pay £100 BUT that is only spaculation and it might only be that you pay that if you lose.

This web site will help I think:

http://www.hmcourts-service.gov.uk/infoabout/claims/index.htm

I should do the same but it's not worth the stress for me and my bills are much lower, mostly covered by insurance.

you poor thing

not much i can say other than to do your best for bailey, if you have a copy of the email saying she will pay, then send her copys of the bills and the email giving her 30 days to pay if after that time its obvious she is not going to pay and take her to court. I really hope bailey makes it, keep me up to date on the progress, love from harley, di

Awww, I am sorry for you and Bailey, were there any other puppies and do you know if they have any problems?
The lady is obviously skirting the issue for one reason or another, sounds like she has had plenty of time to sort it out. Hope you get sorted.

This one is a little better, the other link only seems to tell you what forms you need.

Thanks Pauline, gonna spend my afternoon having a look through these websites! I am determined to show this woman that there are consequences to breeding and she must be prepared for them. The only way with this woman appears to be by hitting her pocket!

She has a litter of Cavs advertised at the moment, i just hope with all my heart none of that litter are as poorly as Bailey!

Ejay, I'm so, so sorry to hear about Bailey and everything you and he have gone through. It's just so unfair for so much to happen to one little guy.

:xfngr: I really hope he pulls through everything and fights off all the infection! Good luck to you!

So sorry to read about little Bailey and what bad luck with the insurance, its so upsetting when breeders seem to be out for the just the money and not the welfare of the dogs.

hmm id be tempted to warn other purchases, i cant believe this sort of thing isnt regulated, di

well it is supposed to be under their breeding licence, however the animal welfare officer was far too quick to defend the breeder stating that no action would be taken a they have no proof of them breeding sick pups, i offered him all the proof he wanted from me, but categorically told me that this was a problem between and he breeder. What are the point of having laws and regulations if the people who are supposed to implement them don;t take welfare issues on board.

As for other littermates, when Bailey was diagnosed with coccidiosis after leaving the breeder, i was told by the vet to ask the breeder to contact other litter mates and also have er animals checked. She emailed me back stating she was 'at a stump as to where Bailey has got this from' as none of the dogs in her kennels are sick. I daresay she never contacted the littermates' owners!

Emily, so sorry that ur Bailey is poorly.
I am keeping everything crossed for a speedy recovery.Keep us all updated.
