Great training concept; nothing in life is free

I think I tend to practice this without thinking too much about it. I've always made my dogs sit to have their lead on - not due to any pack heirachy, but because it's easier if the dog's sat still.:D And they have to sit and wait for my command to eat. They don't have to wait more than 1 second, but they still have to wait. This way, combined with a "leave" command I can try and control what goes in their little mouths and tummies. Didn't stop Pippin chewing up a door mat when I was out once, though. :( Still, we can but try.:) Still, it is good reward-based advice, so thanks for posting the link.

Trisha, this is a very good link and sadly such simple rules are not implemented by owners until problems start to arise.

This would be a good hand out to any prospective pet owner.
