I've not mentioned Rubys dodgy eyes on here before but as long as ive had her-13months-shes had "dodgy" eyes. this has always been on & off but recently-5weeks-theyve been constantly bad. We've been to the vets twice a week every week i think, he's been wonderful but can do no more so on weds we go to Ripon (about 2hours away)to see an eye consultant, hopefully to get a diagnosis. When i say dodgy i mean keeping them closed all the time & on walks maybe a squint, rubes is on 3 different eye drops each twice a day. she is obviously in discomfort as she hasnt her full vitality at the moment & rubs her little face on me.ive always had to remove the "smush" from her eyes several times a day, she is so good about this but seeing her as shes been recently has been heartbreaking. on the worst days she has bumped into lamp posts& 1 evening she fell off the chair as she must have expected the footstool to be in front of it as it normally would be & landed straight on her chin poor darling. the vet doesnt know if she is going blind because she's keeping eyes closed hence the bumping. he thinks dry eye but thinks she is young to have this, she's just turned 5 at our guesstimation. the smallest of eye peeping brings great rejoicing in our home right now. i know our beloved breed suffers from eye problems but its the not knowing thats difficult. also the vet had her in & sedated her whilst he tidied up any stray eyelashes but it made no difference. So here's hoping for a good result on weds, keep :xfngr: for her please everyone, Gx

Good luck at the eye specialist. :xfngr::xfngr::paw::paw::paw: So glad she's been referred - it's the best thing you can do.(y)

We'll be thinking of you and her on Wednesday. :flwr:

Good luck at the vets.
if the consultant is called gary he operated on my dogs eyes about 10 years ago. He's a good vet

Hope you can get a diagnosis tomorrow:xfngr: It must be very hard to watch her in such a bad way, lets hope it will all get sorted soon. :)

Thank you all for your support,im so glad i found this site! Ok good news & bad news..the bad is that Ruby has got "dry eye", the good, the very best news is that she hasnt lost any sight!!It seems we've caught it in time. im so relieved, especially after all the bumping into things! It was Gary that we saw AT, he is good isnt he. Ruby Princess was a star & sat completly still whilst he did allsorts to her eyes. We're to go back in 7weeks, in the meantime we've new drops to use to see if that can kick start her tear production but if not there's another we can try before we talk operations. I think Rubes has had a smashing day with us all making extra fuss of her-she certainly enjoyed the roast chicken, cheese& choc drops our friends took along for the ride! Gx

Please be sure to inform her breeder if you know who it is, as this is a hereditary condition. (y)

Glad she hasnt lost any sight & I hope the medication helps her.
we had to go over to carlisle 18 times with my dog ( to their very posh hospital ) because we were told he is the Best.

18 times AT oh my goodness i shall be bankrupt!;) BTW she is insured but only for £2000 for her eyes so im trying to save that incase it comes to operations. Karlin unfortunatly i have no way of tracing the breeder as i got her as a private sale/rehome but from a puppy farm originally so sadly for all concerned she will have passed this condition on as by my reckoning she was at the puppy farm 31/2years & came to me with cesearean scar etc Gx

She had to have corneal grafts . the first one failed because she could lick her own eye which stopped the ulcer healing so in the end he sewed half her eyelid shut.

we saw some nice countryside going there and back anyway ,lol
