View Full Version : Board transfer and downtime
2nd April 2009, 03:48 PM
Ok folks, I have to move the board and database over to my new hosting company in the next few days and think I might try this this evening. If not this eve I will get to it in the next few days. While the board is being moved, it will be offline. It shouldn't take too long, but this is a heads up that this is normal maintenance if you get a board offline message. Once moved, the on and off problems with connections should cease.

Am going to try this tomorrow evening if not too tired after the Ian Dunbar training day! :) Too tired tonight and had to do some shopping...
Love my Cavaliers

Shopping is always good. Hope it wasn't just for necessities - hopefully some fun stuff!

Sadly it was for groceries! Nothing in the house from before I went to Madrid last week so desperately needed to get supplies in. :)
Too tired again tonight after a full day at Ian Dunbar's seminar, so this has been pushed forward again. Have to do this in the next couple of days though... so there will be a bit of downtime.
Not as much downtime however as one of the well known UK breeder's sites, which I see has been hacked and is redirecting to a pornography malware site this evening ...  I won't even link to it as you could end up with something nasty on your PC.

Yikes  Thanks for the warning, and the update on Cavalier Talk. I've been on other forums where porn has been posted. I'm glad you vet everyone who joins.

It's actually the entire website -- if you try to visit the breeder's website, you are redirected to a porn malware site. It's probably what is known as an iframe hack -- a line of code inserted into the html that redirects people to the other site. I once had that type of hack happen -- only to Windows users though  -- on the old version of this board. This board software is far more secure and it is also why I stick in a few extra hoops for registrants to go through so that spam links are unlikely to end up on the site. It's a huge problem for boards... and email lists too.

Not that I can check as I dont think I am wanted anymore on that particular site ,but it makes you think a bit if you get redirected to a porn site ,I wonder if anybody is a bit strapped for cash as sales might be down and they may have a part time job elsewhere.

The site has been fixed as of this morning.

That was painless! For me anyway
Are there any things we might notice a difference in? Is it running faster?

No not this site -- still have to do the transfer. The breeder/unofficial porn site. They fixed the hack. Probably will work on the board this evening.

Brian, that's not funny.
