View Full Version : Starting a petition for non club members..

7th April 2009, 10:49 PM
from the posts of Margeret C & Karlin i think it would be good if we started a support petition for non cavalier club members to get involved. does anyone have any ideas on wording? i would hate to see our beloved breed suffer any more or potentially die out. We might make a difference, theres enough of us on here plus friends etc. as Karlin points out we are the ones spending money with the breeders! lastly its got to be worth a shot cos you must all feel as helpless as i do so shall we?.....Gx

Hi tupup

Totaly agree and so do Dawn,Luke,Popp,Daisy and Rosie .Can Cavaliers vote and if so what paw shall they use for the print left or right.:)

Fully agree with you that people who feel strongly and are not CKCS members should organise a petition ,and I hear petitions may also be raised by area clubs who of course are affiliated to the main CKCS club, but the more voices and signatures in support of our dear little Cavaliers the better.:)

yup, count me in as well, di

Yup, and 2 more here

Brian M youre a genious! made me think..how about if we were to put after our names our cavs & price we paid?? you wouldnt have to of course but it might make them realise our "buying power" & that we're not just hippy dippy animal lovers(nothing wrong with that tho!!)
not being fab on my computer i was wondering if i should type up petition, print it out & get friends etc to sign then send it to Margeret C-i notice hers says asap-would this be right?
ive lifted the main points of M.C's petition to word ours(& sincerely hope im not treading on any toes here) to say

To support recommended SM Breeding Guidlines into CKCS Code of Ethics.

We, the undersigned, are concerned at the decision- not to formally adopt the SM Breeding Guidlines into the Code of Ethics- taken at the recent CKCS Club AGM 2009, and therefore support the request that the Committee re present this proposal at the next opportunity.

Does that sound ok? Gx:)

I have this lovely vision of of queues of waving-tailed cavaliers waiting to have their paws inked so they can make their mark.

I think it is a great idea for the pet owners to make their feelings known. You have more right than anybody to have your concerns recognised and addressed.

I will happily pass on any signatures to the petition organiser.

Well we have MC blessing and can go ahead I am with you tupup if I can help pls ask.

Ps MC What do think of Tupup comment about incl prices we paid to demonstrate our Jo Public buying power

8th April 2009, 10:35 PM
Who will write the petition for us? Might I nominate Karlin? :p

Edit: Oh I see Brian has signed already, I'll have to look for where to sign....

8th April 2009, 10:39 PM
Count me in.
A lot of breeders frown at the pet owners getting involved but they forget that it is mostly the pet owners that pay their wages.

8th April 2009, 11:32 PM
I think for a pet owners petition it might make sense to set it up online then print it out eventually?

8th April 2009, 11:38 PM
Actually I think it makes more sense to set up the basic letter as a downloadable document that people can print out, sign, and mail back to Margaret or directly to the club, with one or more signatures attached.

8th April 2009, 11:42 PM
Yes, that's the best way I agree. I personally would like a space to write my dog has SM.

I'm going to shock everyone when I say how much Dylan cost me :o

Has anyone thought about using one of the free online petition sites like the ones listed on this Google search? http://www.google.com/search?client=firefox-a&rls=org.mozilla%3Aen-US%3Aofficial&channel=s&hl=en&q=petition+online&btnG=Google+Search

9th April 2009, 12:04 AM
I considered that, but an internet petition is really not seen as being as forceful as individually signed petitions or letters.

9th April 2009, 12:14 AM
Brian M ive pm'd you, & im happy to say how much Rubes was/sm etc by the side of my name,im not proud! it could be optional for those that would rather not tho:)

9th April 2009, 08:08 AM
I was wondering if you were to put details of your dog, eg price would it be best to say year of birth/purchase as obviously the cost has gone up considerably over the years if you have an older dog like me.

9th April 2009, 08:16 AM
Ideally, you want to then present that petition to someone high-profile at a high profile event (having tipped off local BBC and Press in advance of this of course ;))

Just a suggestion to add after tupups original idea ,I phoned a gentleman who looks after our companies computers ,we get on well and he also happens to be an animal and doggie person so apart from becoming a mate he of course owns a little IT company .So after explaining our idea he suggested that he can host on his servers the online petition ,the wording of I need supplied by somebody pls ,he will then provide a link to his servers to be posted on our forum which will then enable members to sign as and when required .I presume we will also need an end date for the petition and for the finished petition to be provided in a printable form. Steve is quite willing to help for no charge ,I have given him my private email address and he will contact me after work today ,so any guidance before then would help me prepare how to answer his questions tonight .

9th April 2009, 11:15 AM
count me in for signing anything, what should i do about price tho? whilst she is a rescue i think i see SM signs in her, but since she isnt in pain the vet won't put her for a MRI. .... not sure why i siad that but i suppose its to show it isnt just the "bred" dogs that are in trouble.

not saying that there is anything wrong with bred dogs .... i think i will get a crowbar for my foot in my mouth now.

I agree. Something we can print off and sign and send to Margaret to post with the others would be good. I can help with postage Margaret, best sent recorded delivery.

Hi Ciren

Personally I think somebody like you who adopts a rescue is of a far higher value to our Cavaliers than somebody like me who takes the easy option.:)

okay not many people manage to make me blush......

The purchase price is only to reflect the 'buying power' pet owners have. I really admire 'Rescuers' as they provide love, compassion and companionship where its NEEDED! We tried rescue several times, but we are a close knit family with 4 generation intermingling, and various dogs & cats between us, so we kept getting turned down as a 'too busy environment '.:( Which from the 'new dogs' perspective is understandable.

I will be very happy to get this delivered on to the organiser of the original petition, or to the Cavalier Club Chairman, whatever you decide is best.

What I do not want to do is be part of the organisation of this non-club petition, as I think the strength of it will be that it is a spontaneous gesture from concerned cavalier pet owners.

I'm cheering you on from the sidelines & I hope you get lots of signatures.

9th April 2009, 07:03 PM
Brian i think thats wonderful & so kind of your friend.it will look much more professional that way too! one (hopefully!) huge petition will be much better than lots of individual ones with only a couple of sigs on.wording wise i spent a long time altering about 3 words of M.C's original petition:lol: & think it best to stick as close to that as poss.Maybe columns across the top
Name.....Date...information....Date of purchase.....Signature...

in the information box people can put dogs name/s,age,proudly put theirs is a rescue,& Sm details. all of this if they so choose to put in this information. it would need to be the widest column across. so mines going to read

G.S, N.Yorkshire....9/4/09.....Ruby girl,5 years old,£400,awaiting MRI scan due to suspected SM,.....Feb 08.....G.S

what do you think to that as a lay out?or would it be better to have a column for purchase price after information box erm ..yes it'll stand out better! So 6 boxes across if poss. if anyone has a better idea plse jump in.
i would say for no one to put their actual address only b.cos we wouldnt want to advertise to any dog nappers. An end date is a must but when is their next meeting? anybody know?
Margeret C thank you for your support in this & i fully appreciate you cant be seen to actually have set it up. It does need to be just "Joe Public", im thinking of trying to contact Dogs Today mag as they, as you know push for changes to breed standards etc whereas some of the mags ive read think its all tosh!
If anyone can help get the word out plse can you? ive found local radio stations & local papers to be helpful in the past with something similar, its usually a case of finding the right person to speak to! Or maybe someone might be braver than me & try ringing the BBC ?? phew ive got wrist ache with this essay lol Gx
P.s Ciren the *proudly put theirs is a rescue* was to you! definatly& its good to show all Cavalier owners have a valid interest, my rubes was a puppy farm girl 1st til i got her a year ago as a private sale tho.

9th April 2009, 10:14 PM
ok i don't deal with compliments well and whilst i appreciate the thoughts lets stick to the subject :D

what was the final decision on the petition? i have lost track?

9th April 2009, 10:24 PM
Just to say we're in too. As many signatures as possible needed:p

i would say for no one to put their actual address only b.cos we wouldnt want to advertise to any dog nappers.

But when you think about where these forms are going, we wouldn't be advertising to dog nappers. Would the form hold more weight if we put our addresses? Maybe it could be optional.

13th April 2009, 02:17 PM
id written a reply& hit submit at the same moment the site went off LOL! I cant remember most of it but i think we're just waiting for Brian M's friend to do the actual form for us then we good to go.
Pauline i put the bit about dog nappers cos i is a bit paranoid about these things:) & if we do get any media interest etc you cant be too careful but i agree it would hold more weight with addresses so optional is best Gx

Hi tupup

If somebody can give the form of what you want and the wording of what you want to say which I think needs to be arrived at by a general census of opinion ,tupup why dont you just draft someting and put it up on the forum for consultation and poss addition /subtraction and amendment by all until we are happy with the lay out then I can pick it up from there.

13th April 2009, 10:49 PM
Thanks Brian, this is only my idea of how it wants to look so as you say then everyone else can change & tweak it till we're all happy, so here goes on edition#1!

Ive tried to take into account there other peoples posts about space for information on SM details & also where there were concerns about date/age of dog reflecting price of purchase in an older one.please bear in mind all info is optional! Also i wanted to make those 6 name, date etc in a straight line across&in neat boxes, with information the widest box then the other boxes roughly the same width as each other, but failed to get them like that:fool:that i am!!
What do you all think-not about me being a fool!!??
p.s. we need to fix an end date too

Hi tupup

If everybody is happy say by tomorrow night with your wording and format I can mail it to Steve who I spoke to today and he will set it up host it on his servers and provide CT with a link for members to go online to sign and if we can have a closure date he will then return the folder to me as say a pdf file and I can get it printed and say forward onto MC on behalf of all us none CKCS Club members.

Comments pls .
