View Full Version : Brian's fault

28th August 2009, 12:47 AM
I asked Brian not to do this to me, but he decided on Lily as his B&T of choice. That left me with no choice but to give in to this face:

The fact that she is a little personality and unbelievably affectionate for a girl that was a (failed) kennel breeding dog until a month ago, and cuddled up on my partner's arm, led him to agree that we probably could fit in another cavalier.

This is Tansy who came in with Susie; the two proved very hard to home together. Susie has been homed to a wonderful pensioner down the street from me whose old collie I walk (so now I will also walk Susie); Irish Cavalier Rescue will cover the costs of her meds and care while my neighbour gets the cavalier he has wanted for ages. He is a former ballet dancer and instructor who sadly now is unstable on his feet and housebound -- so very sympathetic to a dog with a health issue and couldn't wait for her to arrive. He was so excited, and had cooked chicken for her on her arrival and Sam his old collie was thrilled with her as well.

With Tansy here, they can visit each other every week. :w**h**:

I have had both of them here the past couple of days plus am still walking my other neighbour's dog so have had 7 in total to walk and mind. Now it will be down to 'just' 5 by Saturday as tomorrow is my last day to care for Nico.

Both Susie and Tansy are two of the sweetest dogs I've had through rescue -- a real credit to their foster Joe who along with his mum took in these two as scared unsocialised dirty little things only a month or so ago. They are transformed doglets and just love attention.

:mexwav: Congratulations Karlin :mexwav:
She has such a sweet face :lotsaluv:

28th August 2009, 12:54 AM
That's the sweetest face Karlin, How old is she?

28th August 2009, 12:54 AM
She's beautiful Karlin.

I was visiting a relative of mine last week and she asked how I got DJ.

When I told her it was from your rescue she said " Oh does that girl own cavaliers too, I think I've spoken to her in the park and she walks them past my house"

Then I remembered you lived in her area...small world.

I wonder has she seen you with your current crew :) she'll think your doggie mad...aren't we all:)

28th August 2009, 01:01 AM
She is supposed to be 6 but I am kind of wondering about that -- her teeth don't look like 6 year old's nor does she generally -- but then Susie looks like a younger dog too (but her teeth are terrible).

That is funny about the neighbour; I wonder where they live? What street? Anyone around here would know me to see at least.

I had carefully avoided meeting either of these two as they had glowing reports of adorability from the woman who drove all the way across the country to get them from the breeder for me -- very kind person who doesn't even own cavaliers. :) I tried very hard to home them both elsewhere but once I met them both (after I had a home for Susie and they both were coming here) I knew it was hopeless. :wggle:

She's a quiet little thing anyway and very easy outside of wanting to be glued to your lap. She's curled up with Lucy right now. I definitely was NOT planning on another dog.

Good grief, I think we all seem to be suffering from Black and Tan madness at the moment! :p
Congratulations on your new addition Karlin. She looks an absolute darling.

28th August 2009, 01:33 AM
It's odd, I have had a rash of wholecolour rescue dogs come in over the past month or two -- usually I almost never get wholecolours. Have had 5 rubies just in the past while, and two B&Ts.

28th August 2009, 01:33 AM
Oh my gosh, she is absolutely adorable. If I had come in contact with her, there would be no letting go. Congratulations !!!!!:jump:

28th August 2009, 02:16 AM
Congratulations Karlin, she's very pretty. She does look younger than 6 but then in the first picture I thought she was a puppy!

Some group photos including at least one cat would go down well ;)

OH NOOOOOOOOOO!!!!! Don't start me down this road too!!!!! My B&T foster is absolutely ADORABLE and I am wondering whether or not I should keep her. She's 9 YO and we've had little interest in her, and she is a doll....

Darn you, Brian & Karlin!!!!

28th August 2009, 04:25 AM
She's gorgeous! There certainly seems to be some B&T fever on the board at the moment.

There are so many kind hearts on this forum.

Thank you for taking this little girl into your heart, Black & Tans are very special cavaliers.

30th August 2009, 01:45 PM
Thanks all; she came with the name so I can take no credit for it but I like it so will keep it. I think the woman who collected them from the breeder for me gave them those names.

The last thing I needed was another dog  but she is special, so we decided to squeeze her in; also so the two girls would remain able to see each other. I will get more pics at some point. She's just been so good -- I cannot imagine how she survived with so little human contact as she just craves it. She is still very hard to get to relieve herself on walks -- she is so overwhelmed by everything going on around her and everything distracts her or makes her a bit anxious and open spaces worry her a bit (typical kennel dog). But she is slowly settling in though she also takes ages to eat. She eats kibble by taking one piece out of the bowl and carrying it to one side to eat. Her skin's very dry so am giving her salmon oil hoping that will help.

I walk the dogs now in two batches -- two and then three -- too hard to do five.

30th August 2009, 04:15 PM
She is so lovely :) and she was waiting for you, I think. She might feel better for a bit eating with her food on the "ground" and then out of a bowl. Two of my rescues started that way and soon the bowl was no big deal. They remind me of birds in the beginning with their watchfulness-big world to keep at bay. How does your terrific 4 like Tansy-oh,gosh, I forgot about the kitties-what a great group. Are you done with your "dog sitting" ?

30th August 2009, 06:51 PM
Yes the dog sitting ended yesterday -- hooray! And my neighbour gave me a giant Tobelerone (just what the waistline needs! Bt I am just about to have some with some tea ) and a bottle of wine. My four are (surprisingly) quite happy with Tansy -- she is already sleeping in a crate with various dogs at various times. Amazingly Lily only growled once -- she seems to be mellowing out in general!).

I did just what you are suggesting -- gave her food on a flat plate the first her a couple of days to figure out the main water bowl. :) She discovered a flat rawhide chew today and there was great excitement.

30th August 2009, 06:56 PM
She discovered a flat rawhide chew today and there was great excitement

Is that not so cool to see .

30th August 2009, 07:46 PM
Mindy used to eat like that - she would take a piece out of her bowl and carry it over to a carpeted area to eat and then repeat........... The breeder had fed the dogs in their crates so maybe that's why. She ate at least some of her meal that way for years. Maybe why she stayed slim:roll: With her years of wisdom she has realized that it's NOT the most efficient way to eat (she was never a picky eater) and now she just chows down.
