Dear Tupup, my thoughts are with you. All I can say is that I have read a few threads with the same description as Brian has given and remarkably they have all pulled through fine. Hang in there

I am so sorry to hear that tupup is having a bad time with her Rubes. She absolutely adores her girls and she must be beside herself.
I do hope that her little girl is on the mend very soon.
Heartfelt cuddles and hugs for tupup from me. x

Dear Tupup,

Thinking of you and Ruby.

Unfortunately *Pauline* is right, this is not that unusual, but it is very scary.
You have done the right thing getting her to your vet, but I know how hard it is to sit & think of your little girl ill and bewildered without her mum being there to comfort her.

I hope she can come home to you soon.

I hope it didn't appear I was making light of it. I just have been amazed lately when these cases are so frightening but they do pull through.

I do hope wee Ruby is ok - Tupup did the right thing in getting her promptly to the vets. This sounds like HGE which is a true emergency, but with prompt treatment they usually pull through.

Hugs for you Tupup and know that we are all thinking of you.

Get well soon to Ruby.
Looks like no time was wasted getting her to the vet and she's in the best place for treatment and we all hope for a quick and complete recovery.

My thoughts and prayers are with tupup and Ruby.
Here is a bit about HGE
http://www.petplace.com/dogs/hemorrhagic-gastroenteritis-hge/page1.aspx

It is very scary, the smell and all the blood, but like others have said- with quick intervention by a vet things can turn around fast. I've had one cocker with it (had to be hospitalized)and I've had two dogs with explosive diarrhea that started to have blood in it.

Again, positive thoughts for Tupup and Ruby.....

Brian youre a true pal, thank you for this
& thank you to you all for your support & kind wishes,im afraid im not handling things too well tonight so apart from making me cry more i really do appreciate your help

Little Ruby was fine today until 12pm & she had an accident in the staff room(she used the puppy pad tho im proud to say)from then she just got worse & worse(when poor Bri got a panicked call) & by 3.30 water was dripping out of her.Im happy to say she wasnt bleeding BUT the last twice she was this bad,she did so i fashioned her a nappy from a pup pad & she got rushed to the vets, they said from her history of bleeding she had to stay with them tonight on a drip& antibiotics, they will ring me tomorrow mid morning. She had no tempreture but was dehidrated, she wouldnt drink by herself so id been dripping water into her mouth.
I know she's in the right place tho i also know there is nobody there overnight & thats what i cant handle,of course they wouldnt let me sit with her thro the night & im sure she will be sleeping,if she starts bleeding there will be nobody with her & she will be frightened, also with Rubes being an ex puppy farm prisoner i promised her she would never be left in a cage/crate again:(& she never has spent 1 minute in one except at the vets since.
Jelly has been running around looking for Rubes & is really unsettled.Plse all keep fingers crossed we have her home tomorrow. In May they kept her 4 days with this! but i must think positively

Thanks again everyone, youre all special people:)

I am sending positive thoughts for little Ruby. I know how upset you must be having to leave her.

Fingers, toes, everything crossed that all will be much better in the morning.

Try to get some sleep or at least some rest and the night will go faster.

I'm so sorry to hear this and can tell how distressed you are by your post. The good thing is you got her to the vet and pretty quickly too. Let's hope and pray that her drip and antibiotics kick in, she has a great night and is in good form tomorrow morning.

I cannot add a whole lot more than what has been said ... but I do understand what you are going through. Our Lhasa Julie had this when she was 13.5 and we were so scared that we might lose her, especially given her advanced age. It was just awful. so , because I know you need one!

I hope she comes homes soon ... you must miss her terribly, but she's in the right place for now. The vet knows what she needs and can make sure she gets it so she gets better soon. She's lucky to have a mom like you to look out for her.

Poor Ruby, I sure hope she is on the mends really soon. It is understandable that you are worried. I would be too. Just to reiterate what has been said. You did the right thing to get her to the vet's quickly. Not too long ago, Gem had a bout of bloody vomit and bloody stools. Scared the heck out of me. Turned out she had acute pancreatitis. She responded well to medication.

Sending good thoughts your way.

Hi

Hang on in there Tupup. As Pauline stated, we are suddenly hearing this happening everywhere just now, and every case has had a good outcome.

Youve done the very best you can for her in getting help quickly. Dont beat yourself up about her being alone in a cage, what she needs more then anything just now is fluids and peace & quiet to rest without any distractions.

We are all thinking of you, and sending positive thoughts to Ruby. I'm sure she'll be home any day now.

Just read this post. I am glad Ruby is doing better today and hoping that she can come home to you very soon.
My Ebony had this last year and it is a horrible experience, but after two day at the vets she was her old self again.

Thanks for putting the update for me Bri:)

Well Ruby is being kept in tonight as she is still on the drip:(They said this afternoon that she isnt distressed & quite comfortable, she has had a little more upset tummy so they have sent a stool sample & blood test away.We discussed at length when she may be allowed home, possibly tomorrow after more observation,im afraid i did say if they werent giving her treatment tomo she would be better with me & i voiced concerns about her being left alone overnight, the vet said but she wont be with you 24hours a day & i said but she always is! So the decision will be made tomo.
We also talked about allergy testing as this is a reoccuring problem & or moving her onto a strict bland diet.Possibly with her background the food i give her is too rich(roast chicken mixed into her dinner every night:o) but then wouldnt Ruby be having tummy upsets every day?

I really appreciate everyones support, thank you all.I hope to have better news tomorrow:xfngr::xfngr:

So sorry Im only catching up on this post now. You must have got such a fright, but Im glad your Ruby is on the mend. Hopefully you'll be able to bring her home tomorrow - I know how awful it is when they have to spend an overnight stay at the vets, nevermind a few nights in a row :(

Hi they might get results back tomorrow afternoon or failing that it would be monday,i piped up "you wont need to keep her until then tho"!!! & no they dont need to keep her until the results are back.
poor jelly doesnt know what to do with herself without our "woo woo"icon_blshingshe's nearly taken all the paint off the staff room door cos Rubes wasnt there to open it for her!She has marauded everyone who's come in,scratched one friend & nearly torn another friends trousers today, she is still running about just now-they would normally be napping by now! Ah bless her:rolleyes: Ruby is possibly enjoying some peace from Jels!

Hi Tupup: Sorry you are having problems. I haven't been in here for awhile. I just don't have that much time anymore. Is Ruby home? You know since Abbey had surgery she's had about 3 episodes of diarrhea and I don't ever remember her having diarrhea before. Has Ruby had problems with diarrhea? These guys sure keep us on our toes don't they. Please post and I think you have my e-mail too.

Thinking of you both, fingers crossed she will be back to her usual self soon. These doglets really remind me of my kids when they were small - they would get sick really quickly, but once on the mend, bounced back very fast too, so hopefully Ruby will be like that too. I'm sure she is picking up on all the good will that is beaming out to her from here.

Thank you everyone for all your support & kindness & concern,I really appreciate it & it helps so much to know our friends(as i consider you all) here are rooting for Ruby at times like this:) Thanks especially to Brian from start to finish, you are a gem, posting here for me& our calls & texts stopped me going into meltdown-thanks bud. Also our(CTs) own special lady Margaret C, i appreciate our chat & your advice helped a lot-you knew i was ready to break Rubes out of hospital, thank you for talking sense into me!

Now the little 'un herself, she is recovering well, thank goodness,a little tired & unhappy with her new food(Hills i/d 3x a day)she keeps putting her paw up which always results in a doggie choc drop but no more, for now at least:(Im not to give her anything except hills even as treats. The vets were meant to call today with results of stool&blood tests but havnt,i shall call tomorrow.
Rubes has been watching my every move & following me about & weve enjoyed many cuddles:)Ive kept her to tiny walks with a little carrying whilst Jels has had a run about. As soon as Rubes got home Jelly settled down straight away, they both cuddled up to sleep together so Jels has gone back to only being a monkey instead of a maniac!! Tho she's not happy with her food either now theres no roast chicken in it:rolleyes:

I have a feeling this wont be the last time Ruby & I go thro this, this is the 3rd time now but each time has scared me more for her,as it seems faster for her to really go downhill each time, this time was 4 hours before she was on a drip:eek: so i hope the tests show something we can work with

Sorry for such a long post, the most important bit is that she's back where she belongs:rah:
