Spaces left for very low cost MRI scanning

Mark Marshall has a few places left that need to be filled -- only £115 for an MRI, a price that is a tenth what an owner will need to spend for a full cost MRI and work up. This will not be the equivalent of a full neurologist work-up but will inform an owner as to the status of their dog and if the dog has a pedigree, will provide valuable information for ongoing SM research and the EBV scheme.

More info here; be sure to get back to Mark urgently on this:

The scans are at ChesterGates, Geoff Skerritt's referral hospital, which does a lot of the scanning days for the regional Cavalier Clubs. It's just north of Chester, so very accessible both via Holyhead and via Liverpool - though I must admit my knowledge of Irish travel is minimal! Most of the other SM specialists are over the other side of England.

What time are dogs booked in at and when are they available for collection afterwards?

Well I have a free return trip to the Uk with Irish ferries because I travelled to France with them this summer. However when I asked for time off work recently the response was not good.... and I'd need three days off to do the trip.So no need to put extra locks on the doors and bars on the windows just yet:D..

When I took Oliver to ChesterGates last May, as part of the Midland Cavalier Club day, the scans were done throughout the day. Our appointment was for 12.30 (we were able to negotiate the time to some extent - they started scanning at 10 and did 20 dogs in the day) and as they sedate rather than give a GA, Oliver was out by about 4.30. While you wait, you can just sit around in their reception area, chatting and drinking their rather good (free) coffee, or walk your other dogs round the car park! I took a book.

Hope that helps,

Kate, Oliver and Aled

This can be done over one day, back the next. It is an easy drive from Holyhead to Chester -- Chestergates can give a name of dog-friendly hotels. It is hard-ish to find Chestergates itself so allow time to be sure to get there on time -- once they start running late then everyone is later afterwards so it really helps them to get there.

MRI Day........

With our days, we get there around 0800 hrs having left sunny Devon around 0300 hrs.

Those on the bus go first, around 0830 hrs, so that we can leave asap. The dogs are processed in three's. They are sleepy when they come around and occasionally go under a little more. They seldom eat going home but will sip water.

Sedation is different from GA in that the sedation has to leave the body and its a slower process - indeed can take hours. Never had a real problem other than a little sickness and loose poos.

Hope this helps.

Mark.

I WILL be travelling to Chestergates for the scanning day.
If any other Irish members who have a cavalier with a pedigree wants to travel(depending on places) I will be most likely be travelling on the 9 th Dec at 08.45 from Rosslare to Pembroke staying overnight and allowing adequate time for sedation to wear off, expect to sail back with Irish ferries at 02.45 in the early hours of Friday morning.
It seems from reading the small print that I can add passengers for €44 return plus fare for dog.I have 7 seater Citroen picasso so can fit a a few extra bodies with room for cavaliers if this is of interest to anyone??

I don;t think there's any fee for a dog to UK? Unless Rosslare route charges; but I don;t think there's any charge on the Uk routes.
