Fussy Paws !

Does anyone have this problem. When it rains it is really difficult to get mine out for toileting! Molly in particular is very difficult, she hates getting her feet wet. Before bedtime pees, it can take ages, we can carry her accross the garden put her down and she will just stand still as if stuck! Eventually she will just run back. We have had the odd accident because of this. It is raining hard now and both of them look totally disgusted at the idea of going out!

I have suggested we build them a warm and dry pee pee shelter and escort them or carry them to this with an umbrella, this suggestion wasn't received with great enthusiasm :fool:

One of my costumers has done that, they halfed the garden and put a leantoo up over the boxers side, then laid gravel and sand.Dogs happy and dry and humans happy cos dogs not wrecking their side,i thought it was a good idea,go for it.

Charlie will go out into the rain but he wont pee which is strange. We have a patio area that is fenced off. The last time it rained my hubby put him on the lead and brought him around the front, he was not impressed because he didn't want to go for a walk in the rain but he did his wee straight away. We tried walking around with him under an umbrella but nothing!! ha ha

My two don't mind going for a walk in the rain, but if you ask them just to go out into the back garden to do their business the look of disgust they give.:lpy::rolleyes:
Our little lodger, who has been with us 3 months now, won't pee or poo in the garden after dark.:-? And since Guy Fawkes she wont voluntarily go in the garden after dark either. :( And she really hates going into the garden in the rain. Walks are ok though. Which is why OH is walking the three of them at the moment while I sit here and type away on my laptop.:D

Daisy is very fussy about wet paws, too. I usually have to resort to bribery when it's raining. I say "Go Potty. Get Treat!" and she runs out, steps about 1 foot off the edge of the patio, her eyes on me the whole time through the door, squats and then runs back in for her treat. But she will only do it if you get out the treat and show it to her as you say it. Otherwise, she's suspicious that we are lying to her. (She's not spoiled, really! )

Sometimes, if I do the bribe thing because I want her to go potty before we are leaving the house, and she doesn't really want to go, she'll run onto the grass and kind of fake it by half-squatting. I say "You didn't potty!" and she'll go back and do it for real. Anything for a treat, that girl!

The only time I ever have trouble with Leo outside is when it's raining. He absolutely hates getting his paws wet. I got him some booties (there's a picture of them on the puppy pictures forum), but he started spending more time trying to get them off than using them! He looked like a tiny pony galloping round the yard.

Now, I hold an umbrella over him when we go out and sometimes a raincoat. Laugh all you want, but it helped!

We have this problem with one of my lot in particular, we have stood outside for at least 10 mins in the rain and no go. With the recent weather it has been a serious pain trying to get her to go. The boys don't seem to mind much, they aren't fans of the rain but will lag it out, cock the leg and come back in - job done! We have offered treats (and she is majorly food driven) but still she is stubborn as a mule. She gives us dirty looks when we "coax" (shove!) her outside and they don't stop until she is back in the house

Yep, us too!

And the kicker is, I have 2 dogs---1 lab, 1 CKCS. The lab, who SHOULD like the water, is the prissiest of all! She HATES the rain! And my Cavvy, she will go, but only after "faking" it and pretending to go. But yes, we have that same exact issue in our home too!

Ya gotta love 'em!

:)

Reuben goes outside and drinks from all the puddles for 5 minutes before doing a wee! Its ME that gets fed up waiting in the rain!!! :p

Chaos loves to drink from the puddles too, also the pond. Usually she is not too bad about the last wee of the night but I have to go out and wave my arms at the security light so that I can see if she has gone. Sometimes she goes out but then runs straight back in for her treat but I am not fooled. Quite often in the evening she asks to go out and I find her sitting just near the back door looking down the garden. She can sit there for ages just looking into the dark so now I prop the dog flap open so she can come in when she feels like it (she can't work it).:p

My two are exactly the same. They hate going out to the toilet if it's raining. The only way I can get them to go is if I go out and get soaked with them! It's only fair I suppose
