I'm so sorry that your Charlie has SM. There are a lot of us on this board who also have SM dogs and we are all here to give each other advice and comfort. Just remember that SM presents differently for each dog and a treatment that may work for one or even several or most dogs may not work for yours. It often takes a long time to figure out the right treatment and medication. I have found that one of the best things on this board is the caring that other members show to each other and their willingness to reach out and help each of us in times of need. I hope you feel comforted here also. Also remember that SM is not necessarily a death sentence. My own SM dog, Riley, has had SM since I got her at 11 months of age (she is now 7) and she is a happy dog right now. I wish you the best with Charlie and hope that Poppy remains SM free.

I am so sorry. It must have been a terrible shock to find out Charlie had SM at such a young age.

Would you mind telling us how you came to find out? Was he doing anything strange or worrying?

It is so helpful if we share information about symptoms and treatment.

Many thanks,

Hello and welcome,
My Daisy has just turned three in January was was diagnosed a few weeks ago.At the moment we're just watching her and trying to find the best path forward for her.
Do you have your boy under the care of a neurologist and have they recommended medication or just watch and see if symptoms develop?
ah ok,no need to reply.Just seen your post in "Limping and SM".

Hi All,

Thank-you all for your advice, hearing the positives is really helping me and
it's made me feel so much better knowing you are all here,
I'm new to this forum stuff and computers in general,
so you might have to bare with me.

It is 99% positive about Charlie,
he is having his scan on the 16th of this month and I will let you all know more when we do,
he's not limping too bad so the meds may be kicking in,
they have giving him gabapentin 100mg.

For those that were asking, we first noticed him limping,
the vets thought it was just a sprain, gave pain killers and was told to rest,
he still seemed to suffer with it on and off,
with it being at it's worst just before Christmas,
since then it's been many visits to the vets,
x-rays, blood tests etc. nothing was found
and so recently to the specialist.

Thank-you all again
Take Care
