This is shown on the Cavalier Club website this morning. I wonder who the expert will be............

CRUFTS 2010: Proposed New BVA/KC Screening Scheme For CM / SM

On Saturday 13th March (Toy Day) there will be a specialist available in the ‘Kennel Club Health Zone’ for consultation on the proposed new scheme. Owners of Cavaliers and Griffon and some other toy breeds are invited to visit the Health Zone for discussion on the subject. We hope that as many members as possible will take this opportunity to find out more about the proposed scheme procedures, costs and breeding advice.
The ‘Health Zone’ is situated in the Main Kennel Club stand in Hall 3/3A

There are two new official health schemes promised, one for MRI scanning for syringomyelia and the other for heart problems. The results will then automatically go to the researchers instead of the hit and miss situation we have now when it usually depends on the owner submitting the results.

There seems to be some progress on the CM /SM scheme, but no news whatsoever on the heart scheme

CM/SM Scheme .....Ask All About it at Crufts.

I just wonder if the MVD Problem in our Cavalier Breed has just about been given up as a Lost Cause, because the UK Cavalier Club Breeders were warned 1n 1983, 27 years ago about this Problem in Cavaliers.

At the recent CKCS CLUB AGM, the Cardiologist said that 50% of Cavaliers will have a Heart Murmur at 5 Years.

That this is no better than it was 18 years ago.

What a Legacy some Cavalier Breeders have left for our Cavaliers!

As we usually do our Discover Dogs stint on Toy day, there will also be a non-expert on the Cavalier stand showing people her SM dog's scan (and her SM dog)!

Kate, Oliver and Aled (who will also be on the Cavalier stand, doing some puppy farm campaigning)

I'm really pleased to see this scheme is getting off the ground -- but the hearts one is just as badly needed, so hope that won't be too far behind.

Well done Kate.
With Oliver to demonstrate that even healthy looking cavaliers can have SM, and Aled to represent puppy farm dogs, you will be invaluable.
