Some good news with some bad!

The good news is that I'm not so sure that Piper has SM anymore!! I took him to the vet and he has ear infections which is the bad news. He also had full anal glands so those two thing could account for a few of his symptoms. He also said the foot biting is typical of food allergies. Now I'm still not 100% sure that he doesn't have SM but at least now I have hope that he doesn't and things will get better. The other bad news though is that my poor Dh is going to have to worry about giving Piper drops in his ears along with pills every day on top of dealing with 4 kids and everything else when I have my surgery.

I'm glad these other things were found, and hope he's feeling better soon.

When India went to an ear specialist, we were told to lay her down on her side to put the drops in, then lightly massage the ear for awhile. Then flip your dog over to his other side and do the drops the same way. This ensures that his drops will go all the way down where they need to be. Then when he sits up and shakes his head, the inside of the ears will have total coverage. :flwr:

I feel so bad for the little guy he got beat up today. After the vet finished cleaning out his ears and puttig drops in, he then shaved some hair off the inside of the ear. Then he emptied his anal glands and then he had to give his some antibiotic and antinflamitory shots. The poor dog threw up right after it was over

Oh gosh, poor little guy. I bet the drops made him a bit whoozy......hence the throwing up. I'd be sick after a visit like that too!

Food allergies, yikes. What are the plans for that?

Good news about Piper not having SM and that his hears can be helped. Our Sophie has food allergies and will bite at her feet, itch and scratch, and try to pull the hair off her rump! I think potatoes are the culprit, but I'm not sure. We finally found a food that has minimal ingredients, does not irritate her nor make her eyes run worse,and are sticking with it.

I hope he's feeling really better soon! So glad that your vet found things that can be treated with drops, diet and a "clean out". :xfngr:

He seems so much better today already! I haven't even seen him scratch at his ears yet! For the food allergies the vet wanted me to change his food to medical...he thinks it might help allergies and the anal glands :shrug
