• If you're a past member of the board, but can't recall your password any more, you don't need to set up a new account (unless you wish to). Hi everyone,

We'll be collecting our little girl on the 13th of May. We can't wait!

The owners have set up a web cam so we can see them playing :)

Looking forward to looking through the forum and learning everything I can to take best care of our little puppy.

We have 2 children (3 and 6 years old) they were so excited when we went to choose our pup - it's going to be awesome when we bring her home.
 
Congratulations on getting a cavalier puppy and I can understand your excitement. Cavaliers are very good with children and make a great family pet, you will have loads of fun when the puppy arrives.
 
Congratulations on getting your Cav. They are the best dogs ever, and they love kids. Look forward to seeing some photos when you get her.
 
Congratulations it is very exciting bringing home your first puppy. Please make sure you have read through the sections on the forum about choosing a puppy [making sure the parents have had all the relevant health tests, and you have been shown proof of the testing, the puppies themselves should also be eye tested], also about preparing for bringing a puppy in to your house. You need to make sure that puppy cannot hurt himself, be able to chew wires, escape etc - they can get through VERY small holes so make sure your garden is adequately fenced.


Children and Cavaliers are a wonderful combination, but make sure you supervise all interaction between them. The most important thing is to make sure puppy gets plenty of sleep and must NEVER be disturbed by the children when he is asleep.

The other thing to be aware of is small toys - many breeders won't actually sell puppies to families with children under 5 as the children still tend to be playing on the floor with toys with small pieces which can easily be swallowed and cause illness and sadly sometimes fatalities. Dummies are the worst possible thing as the puppy chews off the teat, this totally blocks the intestine and is not visible on x-ray. Hopefully at 3 your youngest is past the dummy stage, but be wary if you have younger children visiting.
