View Full Version : My homemade dog collars

Petra
9th July 2011, 11:51 PM
A few years ago, I startet to sew for my dogs. In the shops here in our city, they have nothing what I really like. Kaischa and Kate are beautiful dogs and they must have beautiful dog-collars and harness. I've done my sewing machine ready, ordered material and started with my project. It's very easy to make your own dog-collar and you have a single piece.
I have a few pics for you:

If anyone intrerested to sew a own dog collar, simply ask, it's really easy.

Petra - I am impressed. Well done! I sew, but haven't tried anything like your collars. They are beautiful.

I have an embroidery machine and monogrammed Sophie's name and our telephone numbers on to her store-bought collar made of the usual webbing stuff.

They are truly stunning Petra, you should be proud

Perhaps you could write some instructions and put them in this section? http://www.cavaliertalk.com/forums/forumdisplay.php?50-The-Dog-and-Bone-Pub

If you would like to make a few, maybe even to order, you can also list them in that section.

The leads are great too. There is a site called Etsy, where people can list hand made items and custom items.
http://www.etsy.com/community They even have a German specific site. Take a look, your collars are wonderful.

Hundeleine is dog leash/lead. "Lead" is more British English, I think, but I've heard it used here in the U.S. in the context of "a dog walking on lead." Both lead and leash are in my German-English dictionary for Hundeleine..

Your leashes are beautiful. Seriously! Do you sew on a Pfaff? I can't imagine using a regular walking foot (Obertransportfuss (http://www.bernina.com/product_detail-n25-i62-sDE.html)) on those. The even feed that is built into the Pfaff would work best on this type project.

Oh yes :-) I have a dictionary too, I must fetch it. I've looked at Abacho, this machine translate a whole text.
I sew with a Pfaff, 1 year young :-) with IDT System= Obernadeltransport

The Pfaff IDT is really, really nice.

Do you know which model Bernina you have? The older ones are highly valued over here, and sell for a very good price at their age.

Her name is Electronic 802, all metal, with all original accessoires. Her age, I think 35 years or older, Roland's mother is dead, I can't ask her.

Your answer to unemployment is staring you right in the face. Start an ebay store and etsy store i guarantee you that you will soon be making collars full time!

I agree with everyone here. You have a talent, and it could possibly be the answer to your unemployment. You could be selling these across the world. I think you should make up about 20 different designs and try to get them into a local pet chain store by visiting their corporate offices.

You would surely be able to get an order. Or do you have dog boutiques in Germany? This is a specialty store where they sell exclusive pet products.

You could start with the collars and leashes and then try your hand at crate liners, and pet beds. I see you employing 1/2 dozen people to help you as time goes on.

Truly, think about it. I would rather buy from you then try to make myself. Besides I don't have a sewing machine that would handle that thick fabric.

Look into the Etsy site to sell your stuff.

You really need to sell these. They are so well made and stylish. I agree with others eBay and etsy are both a great way to get started as well as dog boutiques. Good luck.

I have bought different collars to myself and have sewn then after.

I see. I'm going to try. I've looked more closely at your pictures and I may be able to do this. I'm assuming you take the entire collar apart, sew your fabric on, then reassemble. If mine turn out a fraction as good as yours, I will be very pleased!
