Gabapentin Question

I know this is a silly question but is Gabapentin a prescription medicine? Where does everyone buy it? I am planning to speak to my vet about it and want to do my homework!

It is a human prescription (Neurontin). I'm in the US and buy mine at Sam's Club. A 30 day supply (90 capsules) for $15.00 but was recently told the cost was going up. That is the cheapest I have found it.
