View Full Version : Really worried about Jasper

Really concerned about Jasper, he as been doing excellent since his op, but just earlier he was backsnorting with excitement and he let out a yelp, he now seems sore and I think its his front right shoulder but I am too scared to let him down to walk he is going to the vet in a bit and I really don't want to go, I am scared I have bad news again I really am dreading if another disk as gone with him, the specialist did say he as other problem disks, could I put him through another major operation, I don't think I could, he is asleep now, it's different to last time as he is okay sleeping by himself whereas last time I had to hold him all the time. He is having weekly checkups with his vet and I am just waiting to take him I can't drive with him my myself now because I don't want him on his own in his car harness so I have to wait for my daughter to get here. :(

No, he's not too good at the moment.
It's one of his disks, they have mentioned fenestration(sp) so just say they operate again and another disk slips - he as other bad disks, he as one down the bottom (lumber) - then they will operate again and again. I am just thinking it seems cruel, he had this major op, he is slowly recovering and doing well then bang there goes another one, another op, recovers then another one goes ect ect!! .
He is on painkillers and he is resting, I am hoping that he will be feeling more comfortable in himself soon. I just wish I could cure him, I hate this disk disease.

Oh goodness ANdrea I'm so sad to hear this :(
I keep thinking of your wee man in that video, looking so happy and cocking his leg up everything...
I do hope he is better for the painkillers and rest, and will avoid another surgery. It's such a horrid decision to make, and one only you can make - but you know everyone here will support you as much as possible.

Relieved to post that things seems to have settled down, he as been on Tamadol and Metacam thought the week and yesterday he just had metacam and today I am trying him off altogether and he seems settled :)
The fear was that a disk higher up his back had gone because he was walking so uncoordinated it was scary, then for a few days it was as if his head was really heavy and he was struggling just to pick his head up, the last couple of days he is much more comfortable and he his rearing to go again, as I am typing he is staring me out for a walk.
Taking it easy and hope that things stay settled.
Thanks everyone, :flwr:
Love my Cavaliers

Andrea, I think I know just how you feel. Oliver had cervical disc decompression almost two years ago and it was a great success. He seemed years younger immediately after surgery. But just recently, he has been yelping when he moves - only once or twice a day. He has bad disc further down his spine which the neurologist told us about but they weren't bad enough for surgery 2 years ago. Like you, I'm worried now that they're the ones causing him problems. He's back on Metacam. He's now 10 and 1/2 and I don't think I could put him through another surgery at his age. I think I'll probably just try to keep him comfortable. He still likes his walks, but other than that, he just lies in his bed. He yelped at 5 a.m. this morning when he changed position in bed :( Poor boy.
Glad that Jasper is feeling better.

Oh Bev I am sorry to hear Oliver as got disk problems also, gentle hugs to Oliver I hope the metacam helps settle things down and he is more comfortable poor baby. I'm so sad thinking of him crying in his bed early this morning and I am thinking of you too as it horrible to see them in pain.
