First i wish you all a Merry X-mas,

I hope you can help me with this.

My dog is approx. 1 year old.
Till 2 weeks ago he went very sick. He didn't eat or drink throw up(comming from his lungs) and his weight began to drop rapidly.
We went to the docter, and she tested some urine and blood samples, and measure his temp.
The temperature was ok.
Also she gave him an infusion.

There are no negative results of the samples. We feeding (food an water) our King manualy, cause he doesn't do that by himself. During the past weekend we saw a litle revive cause the dog was drinking and eating. At this moment ths is al over, turning us in a despirate mode.
De vetinarian pruposed to make an ultrasound, wich will be aplayed next week.

My queston,

What is this, what could it be ?
A worm, infection ??
If this was an infection they surrely will find it in blood ?
I suggest to give the dog a antibiotic, just in case he had some infections, but she will not gave it, cause the dog must be examined first. (Do they examine people before the gave you antibiotics ??? i realy don't think so)

I hope that you can help us.
Kind regards,
Guus.

I am so sorry your dog is sick, but honestly, you need to get him back to the vet immediately. I have no idea what could be wrong with your dog, but not eating and drinking can cause dehydration and make things worse. Waiting until next week for an ultrasound may be too late.

Please keep us informed on how he is doing.

Thank you all for the warm and nice words :luv:
At this moment he is starting to drink 3 times and eat a small sandwich. I hope he will continu with that.

For certain there are NO problem with kidney's or liver. Otherwise the blood and urinesamples where negative. If it was an infection he should have a fever, so the vet's said.
The vet (2 of them) don't know what's going on with our dog Guus.
He lose more hair then that is normal.
With this ultrasound they can see only if the dog has something in his stomag.

Which diseases can match with the symptoms Guus have ?

Thank God, he is feeling a little better this day, and so are we...:d*g:

I would go back to the vet, there must be a reason why your dog won't eat or drink. Hope he is better soon.

Pancreatitis would come to mind, but it sounds like they will have tested for this?

There is also a condition that cavaliers can get called masticatory myositis. It generally appears in younger cavaliers, in contrast to other breeds when it appears in older dogs:

http://www.marvistavet.com/html/body_masticatory_myositis.html

This might be the issue for a dog refusing to eat or drink -- it is too painful.

Other than that -- I don't know. If vets cannot find anything I would try to see a specialist. A lot of illnesses might cause a dog to stop eating a and drinking. I hope he is improving still. Some others may have some other ideas. Please let us know how he does. :flwr:

I see that this thread is a little older, but thought I would jump in with my well-wishes for your Cav. Hope things are looking better for you. Also thought I would add that when my Sparky was pretty ill a while back, he refused to eat or drink until I made up some chicken broth and gave it to him via syringe until he got strength back and was able to take it himself. Good luck!

As I was reading your post, my first thought was parvo, but since you said your vet did tests, I am wondering about intestinal blockage. It would fit those symptoms and not show up in blood work.
