View Full Version : Jasper 12 today

I can`t believe that Jasper is 12 today, I can still remember the day we brought him home at 8 weeks.
On the whole he has reasonable health, even with the MVD which appears to have been very stable over the time he has had it - check up at vets very soon, he does`nt appear to have any arthritis and moves very well for his age and still loves his walks. On the sensitive tummy issues I posted about recently, Chappie does seem to have done the trick, just need to ask vets advice re Jasper staying on it, no getting up in the night for quite a few nights now and no loose toilets for quite a few days, so all is good.

Happy Birthday Jasper,
12 is a fine age and hopefully you'll have many more happy years to enjoy.

a HUGE Happy Birthday to a very special man!!
Hope you have a party
It's wonderful to hear he is doing so well. With regard to digestive issues, I recently discovered RXvet professional range which is only available through veterinary professionals.
We used this:
RxClay (Hydrated Calcium Aluminosilicate) is a geological nanomaterial that adsorbs bacterial enterotoxins and increases the reabsorption of intraluminal water in the gastrointestinal tract, resulting in clinical normalization of stool quality. - in English, clears up diarrhoea really quickly!
http://www.rxvitamins.com/petsproducts.html we obtained it from Richard Allport's practice http://www.naturalmedicinecentre.co.uk/
together with this
Tree Barks Powder ... soothes the entire digestive system and helps to slow the passage of food through the digestive tract, so is of great benefit for acute intestinal absorptive disorders and can be given both during and in the recovery period following acute diarrhoea.
it worked really quickly. Subsequently when we've had slightly loose tummies we've just given the maintenance dose of both for a couple of days, not even changed their diet and it's resolved.
I personally would not be happy feeding Chappie long term, although I know some vets do recommend it. What do you normally feed?
I would perhaps contact Honey's veterinary department firstname.lastname@example.org and see what they advise - they give good independent advice from a vet. http://honeysrealdogfood.com/contact.php

Nicki thank you for the advice, Jasper had bad colitis last year, the one and only time he had it, it has left his stomach very sensitive, the vet gave him prokolin and other medication at the time, on another visit during last year I mentioned he had still got problems so he recommended Pro-Soluble to sprinke on his food which has not really helped, and during the last few months he has had to get up in the night to go.
He has only been on Chappie for two weeks, but I do have my concerns about him staying on it long term, that is why I posted here about it looking for advice, and will also speak to the vet when we visit for a review on his heart. Jasper would never eat dry food, so has only ever had tinned, ceasars, more recently butchers with small bite mixer, he also has chicken, I say he does`nt like dried kibble but just recently he has eaten a few small kibble that we use for Ollie, but not sure if he would like to have it long term.
