Hello friends. I have been a member here for some time but honestly I do not post. I have used this site for reading & information many times thank u.

my cavalier Cuddles is about 8 1/2 yr. old. He is the most beautiful loving creature I have ever met. He unconditionally loves and does not have a bad bone or vibe in his body. There is literally nothing u could do to make him show anger or even growl other than raise your hands to my daughter which he adores even though at times she would torture him by smothering him with kisses and hugs. He is truly my best friend. Even in hard times in life when my wife and daughter were not here he was. He would comfort me, support me and never leave my side. And when they returned (thank god) he loved them as if they never left teaching me to do the same. He has been a companion, pet and friend.
He did not know what it is to judge, be mad or hate. He did not expect, demand or ever waiver. His love was and is unconditional.

About 4 days ago after watching him experience what I thought were nightmares and noticing his glands were swollen I took him to our vet. She told me she fears my friend is very very sick and needs test for cancer. This news has crushed and rocked me. I don't know what to do at this point it is 4:36 am and again I am up watching him so he does not have another nightmare which I now know are seizures.
P
if anyone has advice please let me know.
I am going to try to attach a photo few months ago and photo of him at vet this week

thanks
Nick

I do not have advice..but I do send you my thoughts and prayers. ~HUGS~
I do not know what I would do if it was my little Wrigley. It would be so very hard to watch any dog we love suffer.
Try to remember how he has had 8 1/2 years of good health..and perhaps that will give you a bit of peace.
I also pray w/ the right medication...you can still buy him some time.
On the forum..there are many w/ dogs that have similar issues..so I am sure they can be of some help for you.
What has your Vet said they can do to help Cuddles?

Cuddles sounds like the perfect companion. Sorry you have to go through this. I have no advice for you, but others here may be able to help. Let us know what the test results are and I will keep my fingers crossed that this can be easily treated.

Nick: What does your vet recommend for Cuddles? An ultrasound to search for tumors? Blood tests? Swollen glands could indicate a cancer, but not always. I think he needs a thorough examination. Maybe taking him to an internal medicine specialist would be a good approach.

I don't have a any experience ... only advice would be to get a second opinion before taking action. Also to read up on cancer in dogs and CKCS before agreeing to a treatment plan.

I'm so sorry your precious boy is sick. I'm sending good thoughts to you and ours, and hoping the results come back negative and this is something that can be handled easily.

Got no advise, just to say that you and Cuddles are in my thoughts. You might want to post this under the Health section so more people that could offer advise can see this.

What tests has your vet done that he thinks it's cancer?

I would also like to know the same things Rod asked, about diagnoses and treatment. You wrote so beautifully how much this little dog has given you in 8 1/2 years now its time to put on your action pants and find some way to help your dog as best you can. However it is a very personal decision, first you need to seek a good solid diagnoses from some type of specialist I would think. Then after you know what you and dealing with decide what your next step is.......

Is he on any medications now for the seizures?

I'm so happy that you have had this beautiful experience of loving a dog so much, but your post leaves a lot of questions. We are here to support you in any way we can!!! Keep us updated

We understand your pain. Never having had an "inside" dog before, we've been totally sucked in by Bentley's sweetness. He was such a comfort to us last Dec when our daughter died, and continues to be. We had a visitor today who commented that he's so beautiful and looks just like those statues of Cavaliers. Now that he sleeps with us (you have no idea what a leap this has been for us!) we love him even more. He's just a sweetie pie and we're nuts over him. Hopefully your baby's illness isn't what you think.

Hello friends. I am very sorry I did not reply sooner especially to those what'd had questions.
it turned out that cuddles did have sever cancer (lymphoma).
My vet suggested and referred to me to a cancer vet socialist located in red bank NJ. Named red bank veterinary hospital. The staff is great, kind and smart. The oncologist started cuddles immediately on steroids and memo therapy. They said worst case 6 months best case 18. :(

aprox 5 weeks later and thousand in treatment 3 days after hurricane sandy hit us hard here in Staten Island. Cuddles was down to 11 lbs and could no longer breath without suffering, his lungs were filling with fluid and I could not bear to make my best friend be this way no more. Praise god for my wife I could not bring myself to start the car for the vet ride for I knew the outcome.

My wife agreed to take him. Her never hsving a dog before did not believe that I knew this was goodbye. As she left she said don't worry we will be back.

25 minutes later cuddles would suffer no more. My wife asked to stay with him.

As she wrapped him in one of my shirts for the familiar sent would calm him says described by her he closed his eyes and started to peacefully rest as he had not in way too long closed Alt Forum Code

his as if to sleep and his heart went peacefull still. Although heartbreaking she said she instantly felt inner peace.

As many of you know the days to follow we're very hard. Our hearts heavy and home feeling odd and empty. As a family we grieved. Our buddy was gone but sure not forgotten

the following month feeling a little better but our home still incomplete we made a decision that we all knew cuddles would want. We would once again share our love and home

meet Oscar.

I'm so sorry you lost your Cuddles. You and your wife did the best thing for him, letting him slip away.

Its wonderful you have little Oscar at home to benefit from all the love you have to give. I hope you'll come back and show us more pictures.

Boy your lives have been a roller coaster the past few months. I'm so sorry to hear about the lose of your sweet Cuddles. I have never "had to make THAT decision" in all my pet owning years but one day I will face it and I hope I have the bravery and courage to do what is best for my pet. I think cavalier's are so special they have a way with their loving personalities to compel us to honor their memories but loving another after they pass. Personally, I could not image a house I live in without a cavalier in it.

However, I can't wait until the day I have NO children living in my house :jmp2:

Oscar is absolutely beautiful and I am so glad you honoured the memory of Cuddles by filling the void in your lives with another Cavalier. We love puppy pictures here, so keep them coming as he grows and develops his personality. Stories of the naughty things are welcomed here too.

So sorry to hear about Cuddles, my heart goes out to you and your family. I'm a fellow Staten Islander, and have heard only the best things about the Red Bank facility, so you can rest assured that you had Cuddles in the best of hands.

Oscar is adorable. I have had many dogs in my life, but did not get a Cavalier until a little over a year ago, and oh,,,, how I love Bosco! I cannot imagine my house without a cavalier.

As for the kids -- I have 3 teens-- who I will miss dearly when they go to college! Really!!

I'm so sorry that you lost Cuddles so quickly after he became sick, but your new little lad is adorable and I hope he goes someway to help ease your sadness.

Hi bridgeway11 so sorry to hear about your update and that things turned out the way they did.

There is also a silver lining here that shows Oscar has brought lots of tlc and comfort in your life which is great, I hope you guys are coping alright with the classic young pup naughtiness (munching on shoes, chewing corners!)

Take care and chin up :-)
