• If you're a past member of the board, but can't recall your password any more, you don't need to set up a new account (unless you wish to). As long as you recall your old login name, you can log in with that user name then select 'forgot password' and the board will email you at your registration email, to let you reset your password.

when walking junior he is yap yap yap !!!! even when there isnt dogs is it excitement ? i try to talk to him get his attention but nope he wont have it :S
and when theres another dog oh well he jumps yaps pulls the lot i try to get him close to me and get his attention but no lol animals on tv they get a barking people walking past they get a barking :p i love this lil one with all my heart but this can be quite embarrassing and really tests my patience at times.
 
How old is he? Have you done an organised obedience course that uses positive (not choke chain or correction) methods? Sounds like he is very ready and needs some socialising of the sort that comes from a fun, happy obedience class where he can meet lots of dogs in a controlled environment, and where you can work with a trainer to shape his behaviour away from this frustrating response. (y)
 
Rewarding the behavior you want to see is always key. Definitely, a nice class is a great answer.

If you are walking on your own, I would try the sit and watch me when another dog approaches.

You can also try a few steps and if you get no barking reward. Then another few steps, etc. They do learn quickly that rewards come with continued good behavior.

With us its ... new dogs, new cats, sheep, cars, lorries, buses ... and this is only what we've encountered so far in the couple of weeks we've had him as a rescue dog. We don't bark at birds if they're high up, but on the ground they're fair game. We will bark at the cars we can see from the top of the hill almost a mile away. I don't just mean yap yap, I mean lunge, bark, jump, bark, bounce, bark, slaver, bark ....for a good 2 minutes ... you get the idea!:bang: If he can, he will and has broken free to hare off after the trigger. He has broken one lead already, and now has both a lead AND a harness on every time we walk.

The only thing I have found that stops him is to pick him up. He turns for being a wonderful, calm, clean, quiet little boy into a complete basket case. I saw him do this at the rescue every time he was let out. I think he has major issues and it's getting to the point where we dread taking him out. He actively seeks out these triggers and seems unable to control himself. I can't vocally praise him as he's deaf, but I do try to reward when he's not going mad, or at least offer affection as soon as he stops.:confused: We haven't even tried walking along roads yet.
