Would dust effect her?

I am so sorry to keep bothering you all but I love my little kaytee SO much and I want what is best for her, and I do worry way too much!

Well as you may have read in my other posts kaytee has a heart murmur, for a long time we didnt treat her for this, it was strange my vet and another that saw her said they heard a murmur then when I went back another time they couldnt, she had always had a cough it sounds like a dry cough but often went into her opening up her mouth and kind of wretching (She does have a elongated soft pallet but the vet said it isnt this) it was never in the day time and I found it weird that kaytee would be fine in my living room then we would go into our bedroom and she would start coughing :(
So for a while we and the vet assumed it was bronchitis, then we had a xray done on her and the vet said she is convinced it isnt bronchitis and that her heart is a funny shape on the left hand side, I could quite clearly see that from the xray :( my vet then said it must be fluid making kate cough.

Much to my disbelief (I didnt want to believe kate had a bad heart) and my total fear of giving pills I knew I had to listen to the vet and she went on fortikor and frusemide.
Her cough really improved and at first it was almost gone...but now it is slowly creeping back, I guess I will have to speak with my vet again.

But the thing that bugs me is she is fine at night, we are up till about 1am and hardly hear her cough, then we go to bed and she starts almost straight away, the room does have dark patches on the roof :( (I am going to borrow a dehumidifier from my dad but kate has dry eye and I am afraid to have it on all night with that??)
But I wonder still till this day....is it not her heart? then why did her cough improve with the pills??? Yet why does she cough in that dam bedroom?
I live in a one bedroom flat so we cant test sleeping anywhere else, does damp/dust effect the heart?

SO SORRY TO GO ON THANK YOU AS ALWAYS XX

KAYTEE'S PROBLEMS INCASE ANY COULD BE LINKED?

SYRINGLOMELIA
IRRIATBLE BOWEL DIEASE
HAD A SLIGHT STROKE WHICH LEFT HER WITH SLIGHT PARALISIS ON HER LEFT SIDE OF HER FACE WHERE SHE CANNOT BLINK THAT SIDE.
DRY EYE
REALLY SORE EARS DUE TO THORNIT BEING USED FOR MOST OF HER LIFE BEFORE I GOT HER, WELL THATS HOW THE VET EXPLAINS THE CONSTANT WAX BUILD UP TILL THIS DAY.
HEART MURMUR.
ENLONGATED SOFT PALLET
poor angel :( :(

Well as you may have read in my other posts kaytee has a heart murmur, for a long time we didnt treat her for this, it was strange my vet and another that saw her said they heard a murmur then when I went back another time they couldnt, :(

I get this with my dogs all the time. Some will say the dog has a murmer others say " its ok"
I do wonder if they mean its ok, for a cavalier. rather than ok as in perfect.

I took my 11 year old charlie to the vets last week & he said her heart was very good " for a "cavalier" her age which to be honest does not mean much to me !

So if I was particularly interested in knowing the state of their heart I would ask them to grade any murmer they hear.
Though the higher grade murmers I can hear myself by putting my ear to their chest.

Sorry I can't advice on the dust thing , maybe try leaving her in another room at night &see what happens

Thanks so much for your reply, My fiance told me to leave her in the living room but I am so intune with her that I wake easily if her cough is bad or if she feels sick and is gulping as she does with her irritable bowel disease so I am afraid to leave her in another room in case she needs me, sounds silly I know. I will ask when I take her to the vet, My vet did say she could be referred to a heart specialist but I am not sure whether to do this as it would involve her having more anesthetic she has had so much of it in her life :(
Thanks again AT and love to your little boy xx

Angela, my old vet used to say that Izzy's heart was 'good for a cavalier' and in my ignorance, I assumed she meant he had no heart problem, so was shocked when one of her employees abruptly told me he had a significant one. In hindsight, I think she meant that he didn't have a bad murmur, so didn't bother worrying me about it, as he had no symptoms, so needed no treatment.

Both Izzy and a friend's poodle got worse coughing bouts when the weather was damp. She assumed it was due to the dampness, but Izzy also coughed more following weather changes in atmosphere and temperature, so I believe it was the actual air pressure which had an effect. During very wet, hot or cold weather, I used to sleep downstairs with him, as he seemed to benefit from staying in the same room.

For many , it is typical to cough first thing and then at bedtime, with little problem during the day. Izzy only had Frusicare near the end, as it only helps with a cough caused by fluid buildup and he didn't develop this for a long time.

Angela, I have no advice to offer I'm afraid but I just want you to know that I'm thinking of you and Kaytee :hug:I'm glad she has you to love her and care for her so much :xfngr: you will get some good advice from someone here .:flwr:

When she is with you until 1am, is she laid sleeping?
Heart coughs usually start on first waking from sleep. So perhaps the action of walking to her bed from an evening sleeping is enough to trigger her off. My old boy coughs this way.
