Squealing while pooing

Hi All
Just wondered if anyone has had this prob with their cavaliers.
She started doing it on Fri nite. When in the garden i heard a squealing from Sasha like someone was trying to kill her .
So sat morn was the same so headed straight to vet who expressed her anal glands saying they were really really full. But since then she has continued to do it.:(
Have made an appointment for tomorrow morning at vet but just wondered if anyone had any idea on this? or has their cav maybe had the same prob?
I have been adding extra fibre to her JWB and walking her loads...but she is still screaming when pooing! Her poos are not really any different to usual and she has not had anything different to eat.
I am completely at a loss.:confused::confused::confused:

Her squealing sounds like someone is trying to kill her....high pitched and there isnt anything i can do to help :(

Fingers crossed the vet can shed some light and give her something as its horrible hearing her in pain!

Any ideas??? or had the same experience???
PS she is speyed...6 weeks ago.
Thanks.

Anal glands

Two thoughts.....if her poop is particularly hard she may be straining to relieve and my other thought, how are her hips and knees? If Jake has a particularly firm poop it is obviously painful coming out and he will make a little noise. When Shelby's knee was hurting her she would screech a little when pooping because of the angle she had her leg.

When Clara was at my auntys house she ate some yorkie food  and that night she was squeling when pooing too it wasnt her anal glands cos she had jus got them emptied I had no idea what was wrong so I gave her some raw carrot for a few days and shes back to normal :D

Thanks for the reply Sandy.:)

I got Sashas' anal glands emptied on Sat as they were very full according to vet....but it has continued since, even after they were emptied

I thought that would have helped a bit. :(
Its awful listening to her...i usually accompany her out now and sit with her....not very pleasant but at least she knows im with her.Hubby thinks i am mad though!

I would wonder if she has something embedded internally that she cannot pass. Or if she has ripped some part of her anus due to passing something sharp (a shard of bone for example).

If your vet cannot resolve this, I'd probably get her asap to someone who specialises in gastric issues at the nearest vet school.

Maybe her anal glands are sore because they were so full? Or maybe she has an infection in them that was masked because they were full. I'd get the vet to have a look at them again just to be sure.

I think get out the mobile phone, and record and take her back to the vet.
Even though the glands have been emptied you'd need to rule out an infection.Has she been constipated?
Get the vet to have a look at her hips as well in case it's the squatting rather than the pooping that causes the pain.
It doesn't look like this is going away on it's own...

Just a thought, if she was only spayed 6 weeks ago maybe it has something to do with that. Possibly the strainig is hurting something inside her abdomen. I know when I was spayed something went wrong and I ended up having two more ops. Maybe you could suggest this possibility to your vet.

You said her stool was really unchanged-- if she is injuring herself (due to sticks/bone fragments there should be blood or impaction of stool (the stool should change, anyway).
I've had a terrible time with anal glands this year. I had a bitch show no signs until one broke open (never had that happen before) and I took back a bitch from someones home, whose anal glands had impacted, infected and started to necropsy. Two weeks later I had them checked and one was almost full and one is non functioning. Like I said, a bad year for anal glands. Sandy

Hi everyone.
Thanks for all the replies.
Just back from vet with Sasha.
Vet did a rectal and checked anal glands and everything is fine. She then checked her hips and as she pulled back she squealed. Her knees were fine though.
So am home with metacam and back in a week....and if no better she will be xrayed ASAP.
Not really the news i would have liked but fingers crossed for next week.

My poor baby has been at the vet constantly for the last few mths....first with phantom pregnancy resulting in a huge abscess on her tummy which then burst causing massive infection ....then we speyed her and while the spey op her over shot jaw had to be checked...only to find her bottom jaw is not formed properly and is unstable:)() so no chews, tug toys,or hard treats for her!Apparently it is not genetic and has just been bad luck.
The worst thing is that it cannot be fixed because of the jaw anatomy being so badly formed. As the vet said.....it is not causing her problems or causing pain...which is the best we could hope for.
Afetr the spey op she had a reaction to the stitches and she had a fluid build up needing drained. Then she developed milk again and was back on galastop.Which then leads us to now....possibly having a problem with her hips :(:(:(.

Fingers crossed for next week being better news.
And to top it all off the cat has ear mites so the dogs are being treated for them too as they all sleep together.

Thankyou for all the replies guys!
Will keep u updated.x
She is only 17mths old..

Oh poor thing really has been through a lot. I wonder why they didn't do an xray today. I hope the pain killers work for her in the meantime.

Ah Leesa, she has really been through the mill hasn't she, poor little love. I hope you get better news when you return to the vets next week.

You really have been throught he wars with this little lady.
Hopefully it's something that will resovle with anti-inflammatories and rest.
It's no harm to get the hips x rayed anyway if this can be done under insurance??

I hope you can get to the cause of her pain and that Sasha will feel better soon.

Have you formally contacted the breeder to let them know of all the problems you've had with your dog? A (hopefully) conscientious breeder would not mate the dam & sire again.

Poor you and poor Sasha.
Sounds terrible what you have been through. Hope things get better for Sasha very soon.

Thanks for all the replies.

Sasha will be xrayed next week and will probably be sent to a specialist as she is insured.Think my vet was wanting to wait a week incase the anal glands were still a bit painful from the sat when they were really full and expressed. They will have to sedate her as she is wriggly and hyper so they wont have a choice...my other cav though is so laid back you can do anything to her and she gets on with it.
Am just crossing my fingers that its nothing too bad.icon_nwunsure
She is showing no other signs of sore hips....still jumping around like a puppy.

As for the breeder, i will get a full report from my vet detailing everything...including her jaw having not being formed properly and her hips if that is def the problem.I will call her when we know more and send her a copy of the report.
The breeder actually kept her sister and there were 3 other pups that went to homes.I seen both parents, both heart tested too and MRI'd. :(
This was the second time the bitch had been mated with the male and they had kept one from that litter too.We still sometimes see Sashas breeder and mum from time to time and send up some pics of her to them.So it shouldnt be a problem bringing up the issues we have had with her.

As bad as it feels.... it could always be worse.

Ah, yes, you are right. Perhaps this pup was just the unlucky one from a good breeder. Most likely it's often impossible to know what can happen to a dog when they're so young, before they go to their homes.

My old dog Alfs had this and we ran him to the vet,he had been eating stones and they were stuck,he couldnt pass them, the vet could feel a stone and he managed to pull it out.Painful.
