Chiari-like malformation question

In relation to SM, have there been studies on the percentage of dogs that eventually develop syrinxes in later life, that have a "mild chiari-like malformation", as opposed to severe CM?

I know that they are now saying that up to 90% of Cavaliers probably have some form of CM, but are alot of dogs diagnosed SM that have just a very mild malformation?

This is information that is hoped to eventually come perhaps from neurologist Geoff Skerritt in the UK as he has MRI'd over 600 cavaliers, many repeat MRIs too.

A lot of dogs with mild malformation have severe SM and vice versa -- there doesn't seem to be any direct correlation although a severe malformation would almost certainly put extra pressure on a dog's hindbrain.

Leo has a mild malformation and had a small syrinx when MRId almost 4 years ago. The malformation won't get any worse presumably, but the syrinx often does.

The main correlation to pain and symptoms is the width of the syrinx.

Spencer has a moderate-severe malformation but no syrnixes. He also has some hydrocephalus. He has been MRI'd twice, January 2007 and June 2008.
