Day out in Emo Woods

We brought the dogs to Emo on Saturday for a nice long walk and they loved it! We'll definitely go back there again! Eddie and Lola were very wary when we spotted a deer ahead of us on the track but Loki didn't care at all! Pity I couldnt get the camera out quick enough to snap a pic of it before he bolted away!!!

Sorry, was having technical difficulties! The links for flickr wouldnt work so I had to re-up them to photobucket and edit the thread. Should be ok now! Hope you like them!:)

Eddie's blue eyes are just the most beautiful eyes I've ever seen in a dog! He looks so bright and intelligent in his pictures. Thanks for sharing him and your wonderful day out with us!

What lovely dogs you have there!! I like that you have an Akita, my OH wants a Siberian Husky, similar breed, interesting.............

Lovely pics. Dont want to be a spoil sport but ur not actually allowed dogs in Emo wood,I had Sam up there a few months ago on lead and was told off.

Really? I saw LOADS of people :dogwlk: around on saturday?! Some on leads but most were off! We saw signs alright at the entrance to the gardens that dogs werent allowed in the gardens themselves which is fully understandable. It seems strange that dogs wouldnt be allowed in such a large place though? The 2nd largest walled park in Europe after the Phoenix park and no dogs allowed???? To me thats ridiculous! Thanks everyone for the nice compliments! Eddie will be delighted to hear more people commenting on his eyes :) I love huskies aswell Cathryn....I was actually looking to get an Alaskan Malamute (very similar to a siberian husky but larger) until I discovered American Akitas and just fell in love with the breed! He's not a snow dog but he does have that wolfy look about him that I love!:paw:

Great pictures!:) but im in trouble now.... my fiance has always wanted an akita amd now he is convinced we should have one to go with our two girls.
They're stunning dogs but a little on the large side for me!

Go on Gem let him get one!!!! :p :p My girlfriend, Ciara, thought the same about the akita (too large, strong, independent etc) before we got Loki. We also worried that he wouldnt get on with Eddie and Lola because akita's have a strong prey instinct and this can be problematic if they arent socialised properly. Luckily, my 3 adore eachother and Loki is an amazing dog and companion! He is well socialised with other dogs, and when raised with them (and cats) from puppyhood he'll treat them like his family and never harm them! Theyre also very, very intelligent! He mastered sit, stay, paw, lie down etc within a few hours (seriously) just after we got him. The only problem with this intelligence is he can sometimes seem a bit stubborn but it's like he's too smart! He looks back at you with an expression akin to "Why don't YOU go and fetch the ball?!":p Ciara walks him all the time and has no trouble with him on the lead and he's a brilliant guard dog too so she feels very safe if I'm not home and she's just in with the dogs! They aren't a dog for everyone because of their size and strong personality but if your very consistant with their training they are an amzing dog! Check out this link for more info on them http://www.dogbreedinfo.com/akita.htm
(This is more for info on the Japanese akita (the pic is of an American Akita) but is still a very good site for all dog breeds)

I'd also recommend an American Akita over a Japanese Akita. They are quite a bit bigger but IMO have better personalities and aren't as touchy (some people might call them aggressive) as their Japanese predecessors. Sorry for going on a "pro-akita" rant (I had to really cut it short, I could go on for hours!) but I have really fallen in love with this breed and hope to get another when we move into our house in February! Everyone should have one lol :):)
