Advice before Vets
You all mostly know the story with my Max, Do you think i am wrong concidering letting him go, i jsut dont see an end to his problems and my vet can no longer help him, he does not know what is wrong and when we get a handle on one illness he gets another......
It will break a great many hearts to do this, but i need help in making a decission, my vet said he would talk to me tongiht and take a final over all look at Max to see if he has missed anything,
would you persevere with going to the vets weekly, and seeing no improvement? i have a medicine box just for MAx, eye cream, eye drops, steriods, wash for his skin, cough medicine, tablets to stop him beign sick, tablets to stop the steriods giving him stomach ulsers, antibiotics and god remembering the doses is enough to keep a sinlge person stressed never mind me!!!!
Everyone has a personal level of comfort for making this decision and it is a very difficult decision to make. In my own case, I would weigh up whether each day the dog is there is a meaningful, good day for the dog (or cat) or whether they have, each day, a poor quality of life where they struggle through to the day's end.
There's a good essay I've posted here that might help:
wow, thanks.. well none the wiser but well written
will talk to vet and see.
Sorry to hear that you may have to make this decision about poor Max, Fi.
Here are some sites that may help:
One vet asks:
"Well, when was the last time ‘your dog’ had a GOOD dog day?"
Perhaps you may like to list the things that give Max a good quality of life, eg. eating well, enjoying being out in the garden, able to carry out bodily functions with dignity; this may help you to decide if he is still enjoying his life.
We're all here for you.
Fi, it's one of the hardest decisions that you will ever have to make & only you can make it. Have a chat to your Vet and see what he says. I'd ask him, if it was his dog what would he do? Most Vets won't let any animal suffer unnecessarily.
We're here for you Fi. Take care icon_flowers
