Phoenix Park cavalier outing

Now that the weather is improving... icon_nwunsure ... I thought it might be time to start thinking about our first ever Cavalier Talk cavalier day in the Phoenix Park. We could do this in late May or in June... any ideas of what day suits people best? I am guessing Sundays tend to be better than Saturdays for many.

Also: ideas on what people would enjoy doing? We could do a group walk along the creek, or meet at the Papal Cross and do a walk from there. Maybe do a picnic?

Any thoughts, Irish people? :) Of course if anyone else wants to plan their holidays around a visit to Ireland with their dogs this could be the time...

This sounds like a great idea. Either walk sounds good with a picnic afterwards. I suppose Sunday would suit most people but I'd be easy with either.

I'll be there provided i'm not called into work  I'll have to work on disguising Gavin as a cav for the day too icon_whistling

... and friends of cavaliers are of course invited!! So Gavin won't have to rest a fancy dress outfit... :shifty:

Or go in disguise. :mona:

Sounds fantastic. We would definitely be up for that whatever you decide to do. A walk and a picnic and play sounds fantastic. Oh and Karlin thanks very much for recommending Lisa and Taras dog training classes. We have been going a few weeks now and we all enjoy it very much and i have seen a lot of improvement in Joey. :flwr:

Sounds fantastic. I'd be very intrerested, as apart from the obvious reasons, Zola hasn't been socialising as much as she should due to her recovery from her patella surgery, and meeting a load of other cavaliers would be a great tonic for her.

Angela which class are you in? Aren't their classes fun? I'm doing basic obedience with leo and he loves it. Though very hard to get him to stay; he always inches forward on his butt in anticipation of a treat... . he dsid this last week when he was the first demonstration and everybody laughed.

Karlin we go to the Wednesday night 7.30 basic obedience class. There are no other cavaliers in our class but there are 3 that come into the class after us. Joey loves it but gets very over excited with all the other dogs there as he doesnt socialise with other dogs very often. Leos bum shuffling sounds so cute. Joey does that too. His whole body trembles with excitement!! They are such characters the cavaliers. Joey has certainly come out of his shell since we have been going. On the first night he was stuck to my feet and very qiet. Now he is getting a bit bold and barking in the direction of the boxers and mastivs  The girls are just so helful so thanks again. Im really glad i made the move to enrol in the class. :)

We'll have to publicise the cavalier outing to anyone with a cavalier too from the classes. The more the merrier!

I am working on some fun activities for the day -- more info soon.

Count me and Star in. Also I know three other cavaliers and their owners who would definitely come along. If you need help organising anything Karlin, let me know.

We did that training course last year and Star absolutely loved it. Those girls really know their stuff. I always recommend it to every new dog owner I know.

I think Lisa and Tara will come along and do something special with us -- maybe do one fun command we could all learn, or maybe we will have a little agility sampler for people who might like to do this with their dogs. Or both!

Thanks for offers of help; I will let you all know! :)

Definitely. I just need to confirm a date with the Dog Training Ireland folks. :) I'll have a date confirmed this weekend. :wggle:

This is now set for Sunday June 18th in the Phoenix Park.

More details as I firm up some options for activities. :)

It sounds like you will all have a lovely day. :D

I just wanted to tell those of you that are doing the training that I have worked obedience and agility dogs for a few years now, mine, friends and the clubs, mainly Collies and Shelties but my favourite is working with Cavaliers!

There is NOTHING like looking down and seeing that beautiful little face looking up at you! it melts my heart! I have stopped in a middle of a class once or twice before just to bend down and kiss that lovely face. AHhhh!

My favourite classes were those with my Cavaliers, sadly now Honey can't attend with her illness but last Christmas we took home the "Best Achiever" cup from our club, can you imagine how proud I felt that in six months she had attained so much. From a Puppy Farm Rescue to a little Super Star!

Today she still likes to do her sit/downs with stay and wait which all include a long sleep in between! and retrieving her dumb bell.

Just remember that once you open the inquisitive mind you have to keep on going!

Thanks for sharing this Alison...and congratulations to precious Honey Buns on her Best Achiever award - what a little star and a memory you will treasure forever.

I too used to love working both obedience and agility with my Cavaliers, it really helped Fillipa's confidence and both Rupert and Filllipa loved it!! They both did Good Citizen Bronze tests and Rupert went on to do the Sliver AFTER he went deaf :D

TedBear was going to classes to do his Bronze Good Citizen - it really helped him to fell comfortable around bigger dogs, and he is much happier with other dogs since. Sadly the test isn't for another few months, but I don't think he will be well enough to take it :( he can't cope with the wooden floor now.

The trainer very kindly offered to let Jack take the test instead, IF I can get him up to the required standard...Alison do you fancy having a guest for a few weeks to train?  as if I could bear to be away from him!!

PS hope you all have a fabulous day on the 18th...shame I can't get there but will be thinking of you and look forward to the photos!!

I would love to know about this when the time and meeting place [area] is confirmed, would love to attend with my 3 babies!!!!
