Thanks everyone for the help. I greatly appreciate it. I will post her pictures from 2 week forward now. Thanks again and am sure once I get her I will have a million questions. I have read so many things already on here. They are all super.

Really pretty puppy. I couldn't help but notice, you put in your pic that you're getting her when she's 8 weeks old? That's typically very young for a Cavalier puppy, most breeders want to keep them until at least 10 weeks old.

Hi Nancy, we collected all ours at 8 weeks old - not sure if it was right time for Ozzy as we think he wasn't ready to be weaned at an early age, as had cold, etc. just after we bought him home, all are okay now.

Hi Claire, I know that they often place puppies earlier abroad for some reason it's much different here, and it could be that they are pretty delicate at that age, ie, the cold, but also, those 2 weeks are important for socialization with the pack.

We reckon we got Twinkle too early as well. The extra weeks are important to learn bite restriction and manners etc. I think at least ten weeks makes it a lot easier on you and the puppy.

The only good thing about it was that he came into the house with two dogs and that Mollie his sister is also down the road, was a very worrying time......

She is so pretty - I love the way her little nose is filling in!!

In the UK it's pretty common for Cavaliers to go to their new homes at 8 weeks...I think that may be too early for some of them, as they can be fairly immature still compared to other breeds, but others are ready then. My Rupert was just over 8 weeks and was more than ready, despite being one of 5.

Thanks all for the comments. She went to the vet yesterday and weighs in a 3lbs 9oz. She is the biggest of the litter. I didn't get to visit this weekend as I originally was going to. I have not felt well for a few days so I stayed home. Looking forward to getting her. Thanks again everyone.

Eight weeks would be very normal over here -- personally I have never seen any behaviour differences at all between those kept longer in the US, of the US dogs I have seen, and those homed at 8 weeks as is the norm in the UK and Ireland for most breeders so I don't know if as a general rule I'd feel they need more time with siblings and parents, though extra social time is always nice. You do also get many breeders and trainers who say eight weeks is the ideal age at which to home puppies for bonding with their new family, and that waiting longer makes it a harder shift for them. Jaspar was certainly well able at 8 weeks. I think for most cavaliers anywhere between eight and 12 weeks is probably very suitable and in homes with children I'd certainly opt for an older puppy... also I agree that it is much easier for the owners to take a slightly older pup from a good breeder who is probably also giving them some early socialising and housetraining, too. There was a big, big difference in Jaspar's housetraining capabilities between when I got him and 2 to 6 weeks later!! Also less likelihood that the new owners need to get up in the middle of the night to take the pup outside. On the other hand I so enjoyed Jaspar at 8 weeks and would have missed out on a very enjoyable stage if I'd had to wait 2-6 more weeks to get him from his breeder.

Thanks for that Karlin, I know that being that young I will be getting up in the middle of the night with her and I am fine with that, I already get up just about every night with my one cat. I found him and his sister abandoned on the road about a year and a half ago and he is a scaried cat literally. Any noise he hears at night he comes and gets me up, kinda like a watch dog, its like he is saying " hey mom I heard something and you need to check it out". He will yell at me and if that doesn't do it he gets up in bed and pulls on my fingers. He is very close to me and wants me sometimes to just get with him to hold him. Spoiled maybe but I spent many many nights up with him when I first found him to give him that special TLC that he needed. My vet told me when I found him he wasn't more than 3-4 weeks old and he was gonna need special care so I set me alarm every 2 hours to get up with him, made sure he ate, drank etc. Just that special care that they need or they would have never made it. He is still a little guy weighing only 6lbs but I tell ya he is very healthy now and my vet even commented on how beautiful he turned out along with his sister. They were both huddled together along the side of the road about to be run over by a bulldozer, I stopped all traffic to get these two, got a few choice word from some of the drivers but I didn't care. Anyway I will have to post their pictures so you can see them. His sister did pretty good but needed care as well, but not as much as him. I had to make sure she ate and drank as well, but the holding he seemed to need more than her for some reason. She is very healthy as well and doing great.

Look forward to hearing from all of you.

Michelle
